Episode 50 – Top Five King’s X Albums with Martin Popoff

For this very special 50th episode of the LeBrain Train, we welcome back Martin Popoff to talk King’s X!  It is such an honour and a pleasure to have Martin on a second time.  King’s X was the subject broached (by Uncle Meat, thank you) and Martin challenged us to hone down our usual Nigel Tufnel Top Ten lists to a tight Top Five.

Topic decided, it was only after the fact I realized how difficult this was going to be!  But I think I have my top five ready.  These are some serious lists, and we’re sitting down with a serious King’s X fan.

Friday night, “We Will Find Who We Are”.  Is this one “Over My Head”?  Let the “Skeptical Winds” blow.  I don’t want to “Pretend”, because “I’ll Never Get Tired” of King’s X.  Please give Martin your biggest welcome, and give it a share, won’t you?

        2. Oh no problem! Thanks for another great show Mike! I’m so happy you guys got more people into King’s X. I’ll keep Gretchen and Dogman in mind for a taste of the band. Martin was a joy to listen to as well. You, Deke, Meat, and Kevin had a good time, which is always fun to watch!

      1. I wanna get into it on YT but I’m afraid it’s a bit of a slippery slope so I hesitate. But yeah man, whenever things open up, we are definitely hitting up the big smoke. In fact, I think whatever year we go, we need raincheck trips to make up for years we missed. Two trips? Three? I’m in!

    1. These guys are so good man. Like you always see them on lists made by other musicians. One of those bands that tragically never made it, but really if they had…it wouldn’t have been the same. They were just too different. Maybe their biggest profile was Woodstock 94, people just really dug King’s X. Doug Pinnick went on this emotional rant in “Over My Head”, telling the crowd that he grew up with his Grandma singing hymns upstairs, but his Grandma never once told him she loved him. Powerful stuff. You could see how the Woodstock 94 crowd would be into it.

  9. 50 episodes already! Wow… that’s ace! As you know, I’ve been gradually picking up King’s X albums over the last year and a bit and now sit at 11. I haven’t given them all the attention they might deserve. As always, I’ll tune in if I’m around… if not, I’ll catch-up via the YouTube.
