NEWS: QUEENSRYCHE conclusion – the band get the name

Queensryche get the name.  Geoff Tate gets Mindcrime I and II.

In summation, the band Queensryche purchased the rights to the name from Tate.  In exchange, Tate gets exclusive rights to performances of Operation: Mindcrime I and II.  That sounds like a great solution all around.  So the band Queensryche can’t play Mindcrime in its entirety anymore — who cares!  I don’t.  It’s been done, twice.  Tate’s the guy who has the connection to the story, so for him to play it makes sense to me.  He can change it stylistically if he wants, he can do anything with it.

Some very relieved musicians made some statements today, and fandom breathed a sigh of relief.  It is over.

  1. So Joffrey the loon didn’t get the name, huh? But he’s so wealthy…

    So what would happen if Queensrÿche just skipped all the intros and just played all the O:M in a row? That wouldn’t be playing the album in its entirety, now would it? ;)
    Well, the name ended up in the right hands and I couldn’t care less if I ever saw O:M in its entirety ever again. They can still play the songs so who cares.
    Will Joffrey re-release his FU album as a solo artist now? I hope so because it would be cool to listen and review it as a Geoff Tate album instead of a fake Queensrÿche one.

      You’re right Jon — QR could technically get away with playing Mindcrime and editing out certain bits. But they wouldn’t do that, if anything they’d play a “suite” like they did on the Live Evolution album.

      I hope he does reissue FU actually. Heavy Metal Overload and I were discussing today, if I walked into a store to buy FU, which mix of it would be available? Can I still get both versions on CD?

  2. Sounds good. Seems like the solution most fans would prefer. Also Toddryche don’t seem like they’d suit all the stage shows and acting anyway, so the whole “entire performance” thing isn’t too big a loss even to fans who haven’t seen it yet.

    1. Yeah I agree. Toddryche is not the theatrical outfit that Geoff Tate was. So it’s perfect really. I already have two copies of Mindcrime live plus numerous partial performances.

      1. Yeah, me too. I really hope Tate re-release FU as a solo album. It would be cool to listen to it (and review it) without the Queensrÿche comparision. It’s really not a bad album, it just wasn’t good enough as a Queensrÿche album.
        And that song that neue regel keeps talking about, Weight Of The World, is really a great tune.

        1. I feel more comfortable buying it, now. Before, I felt that me buying it was a “vote” for a version of the band. Now that it is settled, amicably, I feel that I can purchase it. I’d prefer to purchase it under the Tate name, if they ever reissue. But it sold so poorly, would anybody make any money on a reissue?

        2. I think more people would buy it as a Tate solo release than a under the QR banner. I know I probably would. If it was on sale. Tate may have some mental issues but if he releases good music, then I’d purchase it.

        3. He may have mental issues, but also, the last two years may also have humbled him. It’s had to know. He has certainly tamed down his statements since then. I believe in second chances so like you if he releases good music, I will support it.
