Rocking Reissues on Grab A Stack with Mike, Tim, Rob and the Mad Metal Man

Rock Candy, Rhino, Sony Legacy, La-La-Land, Wounded Bird, BGO…all respected reissue labels that collectors seek and value.  We looked at a decent cross section from these labels and more on this episode of Grab A Stack of Rock.

Harrison the Mad Metal Man educated us on Oingo Boingo.  Rob Daniels highlighted a Loreena McKennit super deluxe that sounds out of this world.  Mr. Durling presented a variety of rock reissues including our only vinyl of the evening.  I had some cool Johnny Cash on Sony Legacy, and a bunch of Budgie.  This is just a slice of what we showed.

Apologies for the audio glitches at the start!  We got it figured out and rolled on.

“Ask Harrison” came from a new contributor tonight:  Superhero Tee Bone Man himself!  California Girl asked some questions about Heart and Pat Benatar, sparking a lively discussion.

Speaking of whom, next week at a special time (3 PM EST / Noon Pacific), California Girl aka MarriedAndHeels will be joining us live for the first time, so get your questions ready.

Thanks for watching, and if you missed it, you can check it out below!

GRAB A STACK OF ROCK…with Mike and the Mad Metal Man
Episode 13:  Reissue Record Labels with Tim Durling and Rob Daniels

The original crew of the USS Stackterprise is reunited this week!  Ensign Tim Durling, the aficionado of every edition of everything, wanted to discuss record labels that specialize in reissues.  Labels like Rock Candy, Sony Legacy, Noteworthy Productions, and many more.  Lt. Rob Daniels will be on hand to show off some La-La-Land reissue soundtracks.  Commander Kopp and I will also be prepared with some tasty discs of rock. With Durling and Daniels, two radio legends in their own rights, I’ll be able to just kick back, listen and learn.

Additionally:  Ask Harrison is back with a new question, and everybody’s favourite guest MarriedAndHeels has another question for the group.

Show Plans and Announcements

12 episodes in, and Grab A Stack of Rock keeps rolling.  A huge thank-you is due to my stoic co-host, the Mad Metal Man, for his endless dedication.  The panel and contributors involved have given 110% and things are still going to get kicked up a few notches.

This week, Friday January 27 at 7 PM, Tim Durling gets the spotlight as we discuss a topic of his suggestion:  Reissue Record Labels.  Labels like Rock Candy, or Sony Legacy, and many more.  Durling has his stack ready!  Rob Daniels will be on hand to show off some La-La-Land reissue soundtracks.  Harrison and I will also be prepared with some tasty discs of rock. With Durling and Daniels, two radio legends on their own rights, I’ll be able to just kick back, listen and learn.

And then…Friday February 3, at 3 PM Eastern time and 12 noon Pacific, we have the first live appearance of MarriedAndHeels / California Girl on Grab A Stack of Rock!  For  those with short memories, her appearances thus far have all been pre-recorded.  This time we go live!  I’ll be moderating questions, and I’m sure we will have a lot.  Her fans have spoken and they want to see more heels this time.  So why not?  Her shoe collection is just as impressive as my music collection, and she has more fans than the average rock star, so I say why not!  Dare I say why not.

Whether you like heels or not, California Girl is an excellent guest and I assure you we will also discuss music, and unbox a toy or two.  I have a Marvel Legends Killmonger to open, which I have been saving for this occasion, since California Girl has a thing for Michael B. Jordan.  It’s gonna be good.

Hope to see you at one of these shows if not both.  Please enjoy the latest updated version of the Grab A Stack of Rock theme video below!

Ensign Durling, Captain Kevin, Lt. Cmdr Daniels and Mr. Kopp beam up their Trek collectibles

This time, the Red Shirt didn’t die!  Spoiler alert:  Ensign Durling survived all 1 hour 50 minutes of this show.  It was a marathon but for good reason.  Star Trek is a big part of our lives, and features some pretty incredible music.  Mr. Durling and Lt. Commander Rob Daniels brought a variety of classic soundtracks on vinyl, CD, and cassette.  He also had an original DS9 shooting script!  Interesting items here.  Meanwhile, Captain Kevin brought some books, DVDs and a Hallmark communicator.  Commander Kopp had a cool MAD Magazine compilation of Trek sketches from the classic comedy book.  Most of my hardcore Trek stuff is packaged away in storage, but I had some cool comics, DVDs, and handmade items that are very special to me.

Bonus:  Tim and I dressed in uniform.

Also:  Find out which DVD to watch if you wish to hear Shatner or Nimoy (we don’t know specifically whom) let out a fart.

We had an “Ask Harrison” from the Canadian Snow Turtle, and Tee Bone answered a question from MarriedAndHeels.   Tee Bone’s eloquent answer could even bring a tear to your eye.  You don’t want to miss that.

See you next week for the Karate Kid and Cobra Kai with Dr. Kathryn and Rob Daniels!

Tim Durling and Marco D’Auria deliver the pre-Christmas treasures with Mike and the Mad Metal Man

Extra special surprise tonight as Marco D’Auria joined us to show off the new Mystique DVD and some Elvis treasures: magazines, books and records!  East coast radio legend Tim Durling also came by with some tapes, records and CDs of his own.  As for me, I unboxed Rush’s Permanent Waves deluxe set, a beautiful Savatage Poets and Madmen vinyl reissue, and showed off a complete set of all four Fish-era Marillion studio box sets.

Meanwhile, Harrison the Mad Metal Man dodged a question and a half, while Mike revealed what his stripper song would be.

Have a safe and happy Christmas!  We will see you next week on Dec 30th for a drop-in special!

Episode 8:  Tim Durling returns!

East coast radio legend Tim Durling returns tonight to reveal 11 new arrivals!  Mystery goodies!  We have no idea what he has in store for us.  8 track tapes?  Could very well be.  I guess you’ll just have to tune in tonight to see for yourself.

Just in time for the show is a vinyl copy of Poets and Madmen by Savatage – glow in the dark!  I’ll also be unboxing the rest of the box sets we didn’t get to last week, or as many as time permits.  Permanent Waves by Rush is on deck, as is Master of Puppets by Metallica, Fugazi by Marillion, and Restless Heart by Whitesnake.  You will have a say in what gets unboxed tonight.

Harrison the Mad Metal Man will be there to answer questions!  For “Ask Harrison” tonight, we have Christmas greetings and questions from California Girl.  There may even be an “Ask Mike”!  Meanwhile Jeff Taylor has a question about Australia.

Grant’s Rock Warehaus – THE DARKNESS – With Mike Ladano and Tim Durling

What a fun night!  Grant Arthur and I went through our favourite Darkness tracks, album by album and single by single.  Then Tim Durling showed up and the rocking really began.  An absolutely fun night, educational, and a total love affair for Dan, Justin, Frankie, Rufus, Richie, Eddie and Emily.  We also delved into Hot Leg, the Stone Gods, and British Whale.  Get rocked!

Marco D’Auria and Tim Durling are Creatures of the Night! Box set dissected, bootleg DVDs examined, and Harrison questioned!

Marco, Tim and I had a blast taking a deep dive into Kiss’ Creatures of the Night album, box set, and tour!  Marco presented a collection of four Kiss bootlegs from the Creatures era.  Tim brought the vinyl and cassettes.  He even had a related 8-track tape.  I dove deep into the Kiss box set:  the book, the goodies, the music, the stories and the packaging!  (For those asking me for a box set review, this is pretty much it!)  Additionally, Uncle Meat stopped by with his memories of seeing the Creatures tour at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto.  Finally, “Ask Harrison” returned with two of the best questions for my Aussie co-host yet.  Harrison doesn’t have much in the way of Kiss but did present some interesting stuff in terms of Slade, Deep Purple, Def Leppard, and more.

“Ask Harrison” questions this time were asked by Lana (via Tee Bone) and our newest castmember, an actual Instagram influencer with 200,000 followers who discovered our Led Zeppelin list episode earlier this year, became a fan, and wanted to be a part of our little show herself! Please give her a big welcome.

Next week I’ll be doing a taping with Grant Arthur from Grant’s Rock Warehaus, but we’ll be back again soon.  Thanks for watching!

GRAB A STACK OF ROCK…with Mike and the Mad Metal Man
Episode 5: Special guests Marco D’Auria and Tim Durling

Week five of Grab a Stack of Rock, and the Kiss Creatures of the Night box set has finally arrived!  And it’s awesome – the best Kiss box set to date.  We’ll tell you why tonight.  Additionally, Marco D’Auria and Tim Durling from the Contrarians will be on hand to show off some of their own Kiss goodies.  D’ya think Tim will have 8-track tapes?  What are the odds?

The popular “Ask Harrison” feature also returns, with two of the best questions yet.  Let’s hope our boy from Australia is ready!
