He’s dead on about them labeling everything “Heavy Metal”. Same in the 90’s when every new song was “alternative”.

Me too! It was all about marketing and lumping bands that were not grunge in with the ones that were.

If you look band at the bands lumped together, they couldn’t be less alike. Nirvana and Pearl Jam? Not the same at all.

Yeah, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, R.E.M., Tragically Hip, NiN were all “alternative”. I mean, what kind of genre is this? It had nothing to do with a sound and all what they could package and sell.
