Great conversation, Mike, and an excellent choice for 1002nd album. I already commented over at Geoff’s place so here’s what I wrote:
“Another great listen, Geoff (and Mike). I agree wholeheartedly about this album, as it’s probably my favorite in Steve Earle’s discography (with a few others tied for a close second). I had liked (not loved) Copperhead Road but wasn’t a major fan. After his issues with the law and finally cleaning himself up, I was blown away by the more subtle Train A Comin’ a year before I Feel Alright and saw him live for the first time. I was primed for his next release and it didn’t disappoint. Saw him numerous times over the next decade and he was always amazing, including the bluegrass tour he did with the Del McCoury Band, and I agree with Mike that the addition of Irish/Celtic sounds to his music on Transcendental Blues took things to another level. He lost me at The Revolution Starts Now and I’ve only listened to his subsequent albums sporadically, but that run of albums he had after getting out of prison is hard to beat.”

I wish I had seen him live, but unfortunately my social anxiety got the better of me. I was supposed to interview him and everything!
Revolution didn’t lose me, per se, but it didn’t hit me as hard as the previous albums.
