When Udo left Accept, it was was hard to imagine the German metal pioneers without him. After a false start (including a photo session) with a singer named Rob Armitage, Accept finally settled on American David Reece.
Here Wolf and David tell MuchMusic why Reece was the guy after more than 200 applicants for the job. The album was called Eat the Heat, with lead single “Generation Clash”. It’s an interesting interview considering the hindsight that the lineup ultimately did not work and Accept broke up, before reuniting with Udo in 1993.
Cool Clip Mikey! I need to revisit this album at some point. I bought it on cassette upon its release and we all know it tanked but I kinda didn’t mind it..maybe..haha

I have it, don’t play it often. Generation Clash was a great tune but so different for 1989.

I just discovered your site last night while listening to some late-night metal on my turntable… I’m going to have to watch this interview! I saw the short-lived David Reece lineup live around 1989 when they played a club show in St. Joseph, MN.

Hey Brian! Well thanks for the discovery! It would have been nice if the short lived Reece lineup recorded a live album. I remember being very disappointed when their next release was a live album with Udo. I wanted to hear the new guy doing the old songs.
