VHS Archives #98: Blackie Lawless vs. Erica Ehm – 1992 reunion interview

VHS Archives proclaimed that video #43, Blackie Lawless’ 1989 Power Hour show, was the best interview with the man that you’ll ever see.

Every hit deserves a sequel.*

Unfortunately by 1992, when Blackie returned with new album The Crimson Idol, MuchMusic cancelled the Pepsi Power Hour and replaced it with the half-hour Power 30.  No more hour-long in-depth shows with an artist like Blackie.  This shorter talk is from midday in the summer of ’92.

Erica and Blackie joke around, but still get serious.  They maintain their excellent rapport from the prior encounter.  Topics discussed:

  • Spinal Tap’s three concerts in a single day, and Blackie’s cameo in the VHS release.
  • The concept behind new CD The Crimson Idol.
  • Pete Townsend.
  • The price for anyone who wants to make it in the music biz.
  • New video “The Idol”.

Once again well done to Erica Ehm who did the best with the limited time at hand.

* Kevin does not agree.

  1. Mr Kevin is a bit wrong. There are plenty of great sequels.

Aliens, Predator 2, Batman Returns, Iron Man 2, Avengers 2, Jurassic Park 2, Terminator 2, Mad Max 2, and probably some more that I can’t remember.

      1. I liked Die Hard 2, but I’ll admit it’s not necessary. The others are kinda poopy.

More crap sequels (just off the top of my head). Robocop 2, Major League 2, Highlander II, Caddyshack II, Ghostbusters II, Police Academy 2, Hangover II, Predator 2…

        1. I like Ghostbusters 2 until the walking Statue of Liberty shows up. I like Predator 2 as well.

A Die Hard sequel makes no sense because John McClane is a reluctant hero. To have a situation like the Nakatomi Plaze happen in his life more than once is too much of a leap for me.

        2. What if John McClane is a modern day Job and God is simply testing him over and over? Maybe these pictures of more artistic credibility than you think!

        3. I like more high brow stuff too. I’ve got the Ingmar Bergman’s Cinema Criterion box set, so you know I’m refined. I feel like I need to reestablish my film buff cred after defending both Die Hard 2 and Highlander.

        4. Fanny and Alexander is the shit. That box set is incredible. It’s $150 half off, and it comes with thirty odd films and a 200 odd page book. It’s sweet. Several great films.

      1. Yeah, I was surprised when she went over and put her hand on him and prompted him to promote his album. She was showing no such affection before
