On Friday night, immediately after Grab A Stack of Rock, I had the honour of joining Peter Kerr, Reed Little, John Clauser and Tim “Unspooled” Durling for another amazing episode of Rock Daydream Nation! The subject this time was a comparison of Rainbow’s Bent Out of Shape, and Deep Purple’s Slaves and Masters. They have a lot in common, and a few differences as well. In common: a few blokes named Ritchie Blackmore, Joe Lynn Turner, and Roger Glover.
From five perspectives, we went around discussing our first impressions of these albums, tunes that we would spotlight, and then the big question: Is Slaves and Masters the followup to Bent Out of Shape?
Find out on Rock Daydream Nation.

Oh, man. That’s a really good and interesting topic! I like both, but I think I’d got with Bent Out of Shape for “Street of Dreams” and “Can’t Let You Go” alone, both of which are top notch pop songs. Tons of other gems on that album as well.

Well that is Peter who came up with the topic! A good one indeed.
Street of Dreams is stuck in my head, still.

Now I’m putting on both albums for the first time in YEARS, and thanking you for it.

Enjoyed this discussion, Mike. You guys inspired me to get out my copies of the two albums and listen to them again!

Awesome! And as I said to Buffalo Crows, if you like Down to Earth, I have a 3 CD live box set review incoming soon.

Thanks, Mike, sounds good, I do like “Down to Earth” and Graham Bonnet era (I wish they would do a set like that covering the JLT era too) and have that live boxset so am interested in your views. P.S. – My CD copy of “Final Vinyl” appear to have disappeared (I was looking for it when I got out my copy of “Bent Out of Shape”). Did I imagine buying that one or has it somehow gotten separated from my other Rainbow CD’s?

Well I will tell you this – get Finyl Vinyl on 2 CD remaster, or vinyl. Otherwise it’s missing songs!

Can’t Let You Go is one of my favourite Rainbow songs and I’m a huge fan of early Rainbow with Ronnie.
