Episode 154:  Top Female Rockers with Peter Kerr from Rock Daydream Nation

Peter Kerr returns to Grab A Stack of Rock with a great topic we’ve never tackled before!  Who are our top female rockers?  The field is wide open with singers, guitarists, bassists, drummers and entire bands!  New bands, old bands, it doesn’t matter as long as they rock!

Viewers are familiar with certain artists Mike has featured on his channel, such as Lita Ford and Lee Aaron, but tonight he’ll prove his tastes are diverse even within the rock realm.  As for Peter?  Always expect surprises from the Rock Daydream Nation main man.  We will also have a guest list from author Michael LeFevre, the 80s Metal Man, who has been featuring female rockers on his blog, and some special clips from former Helix drummer Archie Gamble!  This show is packed!

We will be live tonight.  Be sure to join us and interact with the comments.  Looking forward to it!

GRAB A STACK OF ROCK With Mike and the Mad Metal Man

Episode 153: Videos From The Vault! Pre-Grab A Stack Archeological Rock!

If you’re new to the channel, or have been watching since this beginning, then this is an episode that will take you back in time!  We’ve making videos a long time for a long time now, and the channel has well over 1,000 clips and episodes today.  Mike’s earliest video work dates back to 1989-90 on the VHS format.  Until the modern era, he never had the chance to do anything with that video footage, but now…

As we await Harrison’s return, Mike has dug deep into the archives to bring you another special “Mix Tape” episode.  All this material pre-dates Grab A Stack of Rock and is being presented to you in compilation form for the first time!  Mike has included new commentary, and some new material.  Just like a good Greatest Hits album!  Join us tonight for this 1 hour 11 minute episode covering the following subjects, hosted by Mike:

  • “Nothing But a Good Time” – Mike’s first music video – 1990
  • The original mikeladano.com animated ad – 2012

Rock Daydream Nation: In Defence of Bryan Adams – Reckless

Peter and I are already taking a little heat for the title of this episode!  “This album needs no defending,” they say, and while they may be right, let us cast our minds back. After all, it was only 1999 when the Canadian Minister of Movies declares that “the Canadian government has apologized for Bryan Adams on several occasions.” In regards to the other complaint, “defence” and “defense” are both valid spellings of the word.  “D-FENS” is not, but it is also a cool 90s reference.

Regardless, Bryan Adams has not been cool with everyone all the time, considered by many to be vanilla rock, mom rock, or worse.  In Canada, at his peak fame and success, there was certainly some backlash.  In this episode of Rock Daydream Nation, Peter Kerr and I will evaluate Bryan’s massive Reckless album.  I have never owned a Bryan Adams album before this.  Because I go all-in, I chose the deluxe Japanese 2 CD set.  For this episode, Peter and I focused on the core 10 songs.

Join us for this fantastic dive into Bryan’s best, and perhaps set your assumptions aside.  This is a good one!

Rock Daydream Nation: Building the perfect Iron Maiden setlist!

Harrison and I have two shows to promote today!  Premiering this morning with Rock Daydream Nation, we join Peter Kerr to discuss our “perfect” Iron Maiden setlists!

We approached this from a fun perspective.  We picked personal favourites from our Maiden wishlists, and went from there!  Realism was not our concern.  How did we do?  We look forward to your feedback!

Premiering Friday May 15 at 10 AM EST!  Join us!

Episode 144: Top Five Artists Who Do NOT Rock! With Peter Kerr from Rock Daydream Nation

Peter Kerr is back!  The Rock Daydream Nation host has been tearing up YouTube with mega interviews!  John Corabi, Sebastian Bach, Reb Beach, and many more…but tonight he sits with Mike and Harrison about a decidedly different topic.  Tonight, Peter discusses his Top Five Artists who do NOT rock!

We at Grab A Stack of Rock have diverse tastes from myriad genres.  On tonight’s show, allow us to open your minds to the worlds of Pop, Disco, Jazz, Classical, Country and beyond.  We will pick five each.  Will there be overlap?  What genres won’t we see tonight?  Will Harrison demonstrate Polka dancing?  We just don’t know!

For fans of physical media, tonight we’ll see releases on all four major formats:  CD, cassette, LP and the mighty 8-Track cartridge.  Don’t miss this live event.  We love to interact in the comments, so join us at 7:00 PM EST!

Rock Daydream Nation: Black Sabbath – Born Again: Is this album hot or not?

Good morning!  For your entertainment this fine day, please check out Rock Daydream Nation’s epic analysis of Black Sabbath’s controversial Born Again LP.  Is this album hot or not?  Long time readers know my feeling on this subject.  Ian Gillan of Deep Purple fame joined Black Sabbath’s otherwise-original lineup to record the weirdest sounding albums in Sabbath history.  It could also be their heaviest, most evil sounding album with some of Ian’s most perplexing lyrics ever.

Born Again has been seen in a better light over the decades, but I still receive much mockery when I tell people how high I rank it.  Will our panel today agree with me?

Joining Peter and I are a special Rock Daydream Nation YouTube panel featuring Reed Little, John Gaffney (Alchemist of Rock), and Brandon Battick (Disturbing the Priest).

🅻🅸🆅🅴 What’s In Our Bag? New Record Store Purchases – Australian Takeover!

GRAB A STACK OF ROCK With Mike and the Mad Metal Man

Episode 114: Australian Takeover with Harrison Kopp, Ashley Geisler and Peter Kerr

This special episode was originally scheduled a month ago, but the sad and unexpected departure of Ozzy Osbourne put that show on hold.  Tonight, the Australian Contingent reunite to show and discuss new music and new purchases, on Grab A Stack of Rock.

This will be Harrison’s first full hosting experience without Jex Russell.  Mike will not be there tonight, as he still needs some time off.  He does, however, have a cool guest video to show tonight, of a Super 7 “Ultimates” figure of a certain ghoulish frontman from a charismatic rock band.  This is Mike’s very first Super 7 Ultimates figure and it will be your first look at its unboxing and accessories.

Joining the Mad Metal Man will be Ash Geisler from Ash’s Concerts and Videos.  Ash has been saving up some new arrivals for this show, and we cannot wait to see what he has in store.  He usually has some obscure Australian releases.  And, of course, Peter Kerr from Rock Daydream Nation will be on hand with some musical surprises to share.  Who knows what this trio of Southern Hemisphere Musical Maniacs will have in store!?

It all goes down, LIVE, tonight!  Don’t miss it!

Rock Daydream Nation: Why I Prefer 80s Rush – Signals & Hold Your Fire

Join Peter Kerr and myself, two self-confessed fans of 80s Rush, as we discuss Signals and Hold Your Fire.  This fun and insightful episode of Rock Daydream Nation shines an admiring light upon two albums that bookend an era of keyboard-oriented Rush records.

This era of Rush has sometimes been criticized for highlighting synth and keyboards over riffs.  While there is always some truth to this, does that mean a decline in quality?  Not necessarily.  It might just mean bands are becoming interested in different kinds of rock music.

Peter and I pick a number of songs to highlight, and play music clips to illustrate our examples.  Check out the show!
