Grant Arthur, Jamie Laszlo, Peter Kerr, Tim Durling and myself all gathered together to discuss this fun topic last night: Albums with common “nickname” titles! For example: The Beatles (the White Album), Metallica (the Black Album), and Weezer (lotsa coloured albums)! There are plenty on our lists, and I’m especially proud of one of my coloured picks.
This was my first ever panel discussion with the Contrarians, and about three years overdue. Thank you Grant for inviting me!
There will be no episode of Grab A Stack of Rock this weekend, but we’ll be back next week!
Haven’t watched, but you can do one for every one of Peter Gabriel’s first three albums.

Not only can you, but they exist. Car, Scratch, and Melt.

That is exactly what happened Holen!

I’ll have to watch. One that comes to mind for is Collective Soul’s 2nd self-titled album which has the nickname of The Rabbit album for the rabbit on the cover.

Interesting…the one self titled was sometimes called “Swirl” back in the Record Store days. LOTS of self titled albums made our lists, and apparently Tim HATES it when a band does a self-titled as their second album. Incidentally did you see Ed Roland on Rick Beato? Great show that was!

Yeah, that was an awesome episode. I watched his show on Brendon O’Brien which was as good. Beato knows how to do an interview.

He did a recent episode on AI music that I also enjoyed…because I hate AI!

I need to see that one.

It was good. His kids could tell right away when a singer was just AI.

The Beatles Red & Blue albums are the first that come to mind for me. Interesting in that they are compilation albums with nicknames. Holen’s Gabriel picks were good too.

Beatles did come up in the comments, as did Abbey Road (no title on the cover) and the White album (self-titled). Red and Blue are fine examples too! And yes all the Gabriels were mentioned.
My picks were almost all outside the box.

Ooh, technically the first four Led Zeppelin albums are all titleless/self-titled too, aren’t they?

Zep IV is untitled and that was mentioned. Zep II and III are numbered. The first one would quality though because a lot of people call it “Zep I”. But we touched in this by mentioned “Van Halen I” and “Kiss Alive I”.

Thanks, Mike. Enjoyed the conversation. Had a busier than usual weekend so only finished it this morning. Henry.

Thank you for watching Henry, much appreciated. It’s weird doing live panel shows like this when I’m not in charge! LOL
