VHS Archives #151: Yngwie J. Malmsteen hosts the Power 30 on MuchMusic in 1992

Disclaimer:  This is an extremely dull video!  Consider:  without music videos, Yngwie Malmsteen “hosting” the Power 30 in 1991 amounts to less than 90 seconds of video.  How disappointing.  This is an excellent example of why the Power 30 was a vastly inferior format to the Pepsi Power Hour.  The shortened time led to substance-free content like this for the vacuous 90s.

Yngwie comments a little bit about each of the videos he has been assigned:

  • “Dragonfly” by Yngwie Malmsteen
  • “Over My Head” by King’s X
  • Deep Purple and Jimi Hendrix – songs not named
  • “Heaven Tonight” – Yngwie Malmsteen

I just told you everything they played, but watch it for Yngwie’s quick comments if you like.

    1. Interesting because last Friday, Harrison showed off some Satriani that I need!

Yes the shortness of these inserts was disappointing! The Power Hour was a better show than the Power 30 for that reason!

      1. Care to comment which ones? I just recently got a couple of Satriani live albums: Satchurated: Live in Montreal and Live in Paris: I just wanna rock.

        Do u have them?

My head is hurting since I just found out about that BJ and Pitbull collaboration on It’s my life…I just could not listen to it. Trying to shake it off…

        1. I can’t remember which Satch it was and I can’t find it on Wiki. The show was two hours…ugh…might have to watch it again.

Only Jon Bon Jovi could find a worse singer than him to do a song with: Pitbull! I will not even play it. Just silly, Jon. Way to alienate your fans!

      1. Let’s hope so…maybe he’s getting senile?

Found that Satriani bit on the show. It was Professor Satchafunkilus And The Musterion Of Rock cd/dvd version. I don’t have that dvd either…

        Discogs tells me that:

This issue comes with a dvd bonus including:
        the making of the album
3 live clips : Surfing With The Alien, Ice 9 and Crushing Day
        behind-the-scenes in LA and SF
        Approx. running time: 40 minutes
