Hi Mike, I grew up in Albany, New York, where they were local heroes. I was too young to go see them, or even know what “Blotto” meant, but I heard I Wanna Be A Lifeguard a lot on local radio. It was even cooler when MTV would occasionally play the song.
Around the same time, I would hear the DJs sometimes mention that Soft White Underbelly was playing at this or that club. It was only many years later that I learned that “Soft White Underbelly” was the name Blue Oyster Cult would use when they were not officially on tour, but would go around playing clubs in places like Albany or Poughkeepsie for fun.
