πŸ…»πŸ…ΈπŸ†…πŸ…΄: Collecting Quirks of the Music Nerds with Tim Durling

GRAB A STACK OF ROCK With Mike and the Mad Metal Man

Special πŸ…»πŸ…ΈπŸ†…πŸ…΄ Episode featuring guest Tim Durling

Episode 136: Collecting Quirks of the Music Nerds

On tonight’s special episode of Grab A Stack of Rock, we welcome back special guest Tim Durling, for a controversial topic:Β  collecting!Β  Every collector has different “needs” and goals.Β  For example, Harrison and I seek a physical copy of every officially released song, and versions of songs, by the bands we collect.Β  Tim has different goals in mind.Β  On deck for tonight’s discussion:

  • Controvery! Tim doesn’t open vinyl!
  • Tim and Mike have formats they can’t play!
  • What we buy, what we don’t and why?
  • CD/DVD/Bluray combo packages – where do we file them?
  • KISS Solo Albums – What order?
  • Box Sets – how do we file those?
  • Filing “Alice” under “A”?
  • Filing side projects under main bands?
  • Why Mike didn’t like having two copies of any one thing.
  • What is “complete” to us?
  • Do we collect air?Β  And why not?
  • Why Mike will not share files.
  • Mad About Purchases.
  • At what point do I decide I’m “done” collection any band?

This is sure to be a wild discussion.Β  Don’t miss it tonight!

Friday January 30 atΒ  7:00 PM EST, 8:00 PM Atlantic.Β  Enjoy on YouTube,Β Facebook or Twitter.

    1. So you and Harrison do that. I go by “library rules” – file under last name. In this case, “Alice Cooper” is ALSO the name of a band. But, Harrison would also file Bryan Adams under B.

    1. I’m happy to say: It was! Loads of rare product including one of my sealed vinyl I may have to re-sell. Informative episode, funny, great discussions, and again: lots of rare product!

  1. Now watching the show.

These are some of my rules:

Every official album, don’t need reissues or remasters, but extra tracks are of interest, not so keen on live albums.
Have collected some cd singles..For me the most valid question is do I play them.

And then I sometimes end up getting stuff if it’s on sale.

  2. Storing the extra stuff in box sets.. For me these things change according to my age. Before I agreed with Mike and Tim. Keep everything in the box. But now I’m leaning over to who wants all this stuff when I’m gone. I’m not in the game of selling them all one day so what does it matter if the shirts are worn or stickers etc. put on display somewhere.

Then there is the angle that I’ve bought second hand box sets really cheap that have extra tracks or live tracks because the sets are missing stuff. Are these a no no to you?

    1. Yeah I don’t buy box sets if they are missing anything. I was lucky to get AC/DC Bonfire and Metallica Live S%^$ both used, both complete. Even the stickers and tattoos were untouched.

  3. I guess that the other quirks for me is that I hate buying the same album twice on the same format. Also, every CD and/or vinyl needs to be heard ONCE before being ripped to the computer and then being put on the shelf.
