Episode 147: When the Live Version is Our Definitive Version! With Joey Suto of Rock Show Critique

Please welcome Joey Suto of Rock Show Critique to the cast!  We have a fun and varied show for you tonight, with lots of physical product.  Expect CDs, vinyl, and maybe some tapes too.  Tonight we’ll be looking at songs where the live version is our definitive version!  This is a topic right up the Mad Metal Man’s alley!

Surely, you can name a few yourself.  Some will be appearing in tonight’s show!  Think about songs where the live version is always the go-to for you.  And which live version?  A newer one?  A vintage one?  We’ll hear 30 picks tonight, not including overlap.  (Disclaimer for the pedantic:  We don’t care how much of a recording is “live” for this exercise.)

Join us live, as we love to interact in the comments!

KISS: Best Song Off Each Studio Album on Rock Show Critique [VIDEO]

Hot off the heels of our Whitesnake ranking, Joey Suto invited me back on his channel to talk about my favourite band of all time:  KISS.

This time, Joey and I looked at every single studio album, and every single non-album “bonus track”, and picked ONE song from each.  We didn’t ignore the solo albums, either!  No, we dove in deep this time!  From 1974’s Kiss to 2012’s Monster, we picked one song from each.  Then we looked at Alive II, Killers, Smashes, Detroit Rock City, We’re A Happy Family, KISS 50 and all the box sets and other assorted compilations to choose one and only one “bonus track” from all of them.  This is one of the most comprehensive KISS list shows you’re gonna find on YouTube!

I powered through some bruised ribs to do this show in one shot, no edits!

Whitesnake: Ranking the Top 15 Songs of… on Rock Show Critique

It was my honour to be asked on the Rock Show Critique with Joey Suto, to talk Top 15 Whitesnake songs!

Joey and I spoke extensively before the show, about how difficult this exercise was going to be!  We agreed to a few ground rules.  Regardless of where the songs appeared (such as the Snakebite EP), we agreed to stick purely to Whitesnake songs.  No David Coverdale solo.  This definitely excluded some songs I would have liked to include (which we discuss at the end).

This list show turned out pretty interesting.  Of course, I included some B-sides, but Joey and I both had groupings from some albums we think deserve more attention and love.  We clearly had a preference for the classic era of Whitesnake, including the Geffen years.

Check out the show and take a bite of some ‘Snake!
