Max the Axe – Rocks the LeBrain Train on a Thursday Night

We promised you tunes, and we brought the tunes!  With a special interview with the guy himself, kinda a big deal, Max the Axe!  It was not an uptite Thursday night at all.  This loosey-goosey interview covers Max’s discography and history as an independent musician for over three decades.  Find out about his origins, see rare photographs, and watch the band play live!  We even get to look at the cover art and title of the new EP.  (Added bonus:  running commentary by drummer Dr. Dave.)

Straight outta lockdown, Max the Axe jammed together again for the first time in about a year.  The lockdown session was filmed and tonight we played for you three tracks:

  1. “River Grand”
  2. “Pygmy Blowdart” (NEW SONG)
  3. “Scales of Justice”

For a band who hadn’t practised in a year, filmed on a crummy cell phone that apparently only does vertical video, these were some fine tracks.  Enjoy the show!  Rock on, Max the Axe!

LATER TODAY

Don’t forget – the Easter special streams April 2 at 7:00 PM E.S.T.   It’s pure nostalgia as we pull from a grab bag of great memories.  Don’t miss it!

*Two more unaired songs were played during the session – “Uptite Friday Night” and the new “Oktoberfest Cheer”.

        1. 4th year G1, when they started the Headmasters. Always wanted the original toy but that 3rd party version can’t be beat. He has two guns, a cannon, a knife and a silencer you can attach to one of the guns. All the parts can be mounted on multiple points and have their own moving parts.

        2. Ah, right. Definitely sounds like they got better articulation by then. Hate the headmasters idea though. Targetmasters made far more sense.

        3. Really? Why’s that? I never got why a human would transform into an inanimate object that has to be held and fired by a larger robot. Where it makes sense to bioengineer humans to be the head of the robot, binary bonded and sharing a consciousness.

        4. I look at it more like a Transformer is crippled without their head, but when in their alt mode they can have their guns do other useful things. I’m a bit of a pessimist, you can see.

        5. True, but the human has to be there for the Transformer to function in robot mode, correct? And if true, that’s a flaw that’s hard to overlook.

        6. In issue 51 of the comic, Spike is on vacation and without his helmet or armor. Fortress Maximus is stored in orbit on the Ark. But when attacked, he was able to call Maximus down to Earth and fight the Decepticons. He needed to be connected for full control, but he was still able to call the body to him when needed, all the way from orbit.

        7. Interesting. Fort Max is one of the huge ones though. I’m thinking more if Daniel is somehow separated from Arcee, she can’t be a robot can she?

        8. Ah yes, you are a comic enthusiast, aren’t you. When it comes to G1, I’m a season three fan- Rodimus and Galvatron are my preference (and Beast Wars, technically(

        9. Awesome! I love the Kingdom line. And you can get real mad scientist with the fossil guys too.

I have Primal and Cyclonus. Didn’t get Magnus because I have the Siege version. Will be getting Galvatron, Rodimus and Waspinator at least in the future.

        10. I have Siege Magnus as well as an earlier one from the generations line. Cyclonus looks like possibly the best one yet. I also have my eyes on some of the Studio Series.

        11. Cyclonus is possibly the best Generations figure ever.

And it’s Studios Series 86, I presume? Almost got Scourge. Still might. Would get Hot Rod if I wasn’t getting Rodimus later this year.

        12. Best Scourge, yes, but there’s just something about him that’s putting him lower on the priority list. I’ll probably get him eventually to complete the Unicronian Decepticon trio

        13. For me it’s hard because I have multiple versions of these characters already. Sometimes with third party add on kits. So it makes it BLECH for me to buy new figures even when they are closer to the G1.

        14. I can understand that. I have the advantage here, being younger for once, as many of these new versions are my first, and only purchases of those characters.

        15. I’m very happy with my Scorponok. Huge figure too. I have him standing next to my Devastator and Predaking, and he towers over both. My Metroplex is in storage so I don’t know how he scales.

        16. Oh yeah, Titan Scorponok is wicked. Depending on my funds, I might get the Black Zarak repaint releasing January next year. That thing looks so cool.

        17. It sure does man. If I didn’t have the one already, I’d get it. Same with Titan Fort Max…if I didn’t have Metroplex already, I would have got him. Because they are virtually the same toy.

        18. Yeah, that one was something else. I don’t have the room for it but it would have been awesome to have.

  1. Max’s albums are so good because he has cracked the secret to writing effective songs. He’s isolated the precise elements that need to be right, jettisoned everything else, and turned the good stuff up to 11.

      1. I’ve always thought that Scales of Justice was the only Max the Axe song that needed a little trimming, but I trust Max to write a kick-ass song, no matter the length

  2. When is Dave dropping his new single, “I Hate Transformers”? Will the album be titled Rodimus is a Whiny Little Shit who got Optimus Prime Killed?

    (I jest. I love Rodimus)

  3. Max the Axe is welcome to tour here when things are over. I’m afraid I didn’t make it because I overslept. My body’s not programmed to wake up early on Friday mornings.

        1. I’m putting some vidoes together for tonight as we speak (done working on the Dr. Dave guest shot – Tuesday for that). I meant to run Fairies Wear Boots last night but I might run it tonight instead.

  4. You and Harrison pulled a me and Harrison. I saw 62 comments and figured it was a time effort, but it’s just you and Harrison shooting the breeze. An expression Harrison didn’t know about until I elucidated it for him, sprayed that lucidity all over his face.
