JIM CUDDY – “We Used to Be the Best of Friends” (March 7 2025)
This is less a review, and more of a share.
We currently live in the darkest times in our lives. Decades of history washed away. The gravity of this situation is hard to express. Google “Manifest Destiny”.
Jim Cuddy has captured our disappointment and fear in his brilliant new song “We Used to Be the Best of Friends”.
The poignant final lines are simple. “Give us a call when the fever ends…maybe we can be best friends again.”
“Let’s hope,” adds Jim.

You’re still the best of friends to me!

It sucks that our people are friends but a leader is not. It really sucks.

Maybe if we make our sex tape public, our nations will unite!

Is the anchor we sent for the nightly news a reference to John Roberts?

The scene in old New Amsterdam episode stopped me in my tracks when in hopeless situation asking what now the old lady answered “The hope is you”.
We in Europe are holding our breath and waiting to see just how far the avalanche is going to reach and will anyone stand up to stop it. How did we get here?

These are difficult questions to answer.
My friend Archie Gamble noted that the world has not “felt” right since 9/11 and I am forced to agree. Nothing has felt stable or safe since then. I believe that is when this current ill-advised nonsense began, though it has obviously now gotten right out of hand.
Europe and Canada must stand together. Did you know that Canada actually shares a land border with Denmark? In a sense, we are part of Europe, now that American is a hostile nation.
Manifest Destiny – “he” said it twice since inauguration. That should send chills up every Canadian’s spine. A phrase that has been obsolete for over a century is now spoken with regularity.

We definitely have a fever and sickness down here. It amazes me every day how f”d up things are. I fear for my children and their children.

I am glad I don’t have children. I feel this is the end of the status quo.
