The addition of live bands and open jams at Sausagefest has, in my opinion, revolutionized the whole weekend for the better. The good news is this: I recorded so much live footage and got so many great photos that I have more than enough to put together the best Sausagefest video yet. The bad news is this: I recorded so much live footage and got so many great photos that it is going to take me a while to edit it together. Patience is the key.
In the meantime: Here are some more selected photos from this excellent weekend, PLUS my entire list of songs that I voted for. Ultimately this year we only did a Top 75 countdown compiled from all the votes. When that is available I’ll post that too.
In the meantime: THANK YOU to Jeff Woods (The Legends of Classic Rock), Craig Fee (107.5 Dave FM) and Ben Ward (Orange Goblin) for your contributions this year! Above and beyond the call of duty.

Wow Mikey a King Kobra tune !!! Where did ya dust that off from?? And better yet right below em is KISS!
The coincidence is I seen King Kobra open for Kiss on the Asylum tour and KK fell off the map with that aweful second record of there’s .
There first Ready To a Strike was pretty good esp Piece Of the Rock in other words the Kick Axe leftovers …..

I think King Kobra were an OK band, but too cliche to make it big. The first album was obviously the best but I wouldn’t mind hearing the new stuff with Shortino singing.

Spinal Tap made the countdown I think. I wish I could remember the list…somebody’s gotta send it to me!

I’ve had The Oath in my head all day since reading this. Great pick!

Sadly it did not make the countdown. I believe one Kiss song did, but I can’t remember which. Detroit maybe.

Well everyone missed out then!

We realize now, random voting has less impact than it did. Collusion with fellow voters will be the way to get my picks heard. It’s not over for the Oath!

I prefer The Elder when it opened with that one! What a riff!

I do too. I fully agree. Best to open Eric Carr’s first album with a song that actually has…drums!

No excuses? I haven’t heard that song in forever!! :)

It did not make the countdown. A few other Chains songs did. This year, the countdown was largely dominated by Ryan and his cronies. They got in a lot of newer rock. Avenged Sevenfold, Godsmack and the like.

Yeah, bands I am not acquainted with…

Not even Alice in Chains?

No, no – I haven’t listened to Avenged Sevenfold and Godsmack. I def know Alice in Chains! :)

What I learned at Sausagefest: Godsmack sucks, and Avenged Sevenfold are kinda limp and derivative.

…ahem, why I haven’t paid much attention to those two. Figured as much, and you just confirmed it!

Sausagefest seems to be skewing to younger fellas as we go on. 3 guys couldn’t come this year due to family commitments etc. More younger fellas turned up. That’s not a bad thing, but I hope it doesn’t mean I’ve heard the last of Gordon Lightfoot at Sausagefest, etc.

Yeah, I hear that. I think I told you we used to have a “Smash Bash” of our own every year, but the cottage got sold, then we tried to make a go of it at the in-laws, but people started getting married and making family commitments…and hating on each other…forget it, it got too difficult.
I had to snicker at your “Cronies” comment. Are these the younger guys you’re talking about that are voting in bad music?

Not necessarily bad, just different. Arctic Monkeys. Newer music. Judas Priest didn’t make the countdown but Avenged had three tunes.
It was still an awesome evening but they are going to shake up the format a bit next year. And I’ll definitely vote differently. I’ll conspire with guys like Scottie Geffros to get my tunes heard.

Sounds like a plan. You need the Priest at Sausagefest!

I think so. I’m sure I can persuade others to think to, too.

Maybe, with all the zillions of great songs in the world, a new rule could be implemented: every band gets one song, or maybe two, max. That way, there’s room for more stuff.
LikeLike
Yeah, three from one band seems excessive, unless they’re good ;)

The Avenged Sevenfold songs I heard were not good enough to warrant 3 tunes played. They remind me of Metallica+Iron Maiden+Trans-Siberian…but with this annoying pop-punk melodic sensibility.

Yeah, and just a smidge of Green Day nasality, right?

Just a hint of that.

Incidentally I received the official list, which will be posted tomorrow, so you can see the final tally.

Actually that’s a pretty good suggestion. That’s certainly feasible. We shall see!

Hey Mike! What’s up with Ben Ward from Orange Goblin and HIS involvement?

The guys met him at a recent Orange Goblin show, and he recorded a bit for us! He introduced his own song (which came in at #2!) and said our catchphrase, “Always pay your rock and roll taxes!”

They didn’t make the countdown, but they DID get played in the car on the way up!
I was also reminded that Paul MacLeod recorded a bit for Sausagefest this year, I’ll have to remember to thank him in Part II.
