Spencer “Spenny” Rice talks Rasslin’ with Mike and Marco D’Auria on Grab A Stack of Rock

GRAB A STACK OF ROCK With Mike and the Mad Metal Man presents:

Episode 20: SPENCER “SPENNY” RICE talks Rasslin’ with Mike and Marco D’Auria

Anybody who knows Kenny Vs. Spenny already understands that Spencer Rice is an aficionado of wrestling.  He may not be the best wrestler (Kenny won that competition by cheating), but Spenny is the real fan.  He knows the names, the places, the stories.  I’m proud to present the one and only Spencer Rice, tonight on Grab A Stack of Rock.

Joining me will be another diehard wrestling fan:  Marco D’Auria from the Contrarians!  We also have a video submission from John Clauser (The Contrarians), and some notes from the 1950s from my dad.

“Let’s talk rasslin’!” said Spenny.  And talk we shall.  Tonight!

Landing(s) Some Trillion Dollar Treats with Jex, Grace Scheele and Mr. Chipmunk

A wise man once said, “Life is like a box of chocolates.  You never know what you’re gonna get.”  MarriedandHeels declined to participate for her scheduled time slot.  I booked this afternoon off for her.  So, this week’s box of chocolates includes some sweet surprise guests!  Jex Russell co-hosted, and harpist Grace Scheele dropped by for a bit to talk about her cassette tape Landings.  The end result is one of my favourite shows!  Top ten?

Max the Axe’s garage sale scores were the main focus of the show, with a second on cottage stories and musical memories.  We told the previously unrevealed tale of Max’s carbon monoxide detector collection.  We tributed the man himself with song after song, going over two hours!

Best of all:  a first.  A chipmunk visiting the show, captured on camera, live.  Twice.

Addendum: Here’s the funny thing.  MarriedandHeels was still welcome to appear on this show, and declined to show up.  Why?  Because she scheduled her own stripshow at the same time on OnlyFans.  However, the gods disapproved, and she failed due to technical issues!  She could have joined me, but karma and the universe worked together to spite her.   Oh well!  Hope she enjoyed her day at home alone, not making any money or having any fun with us.

Life is like a box of chocolates indeed!  I say, eat on.  The No More Heels tour of 2023 begins!

Back to Basics Friday on Grab A Stack of Rock

GRAB A STACK OF ROCK…

Episode 19: Back to Basics Friday

I must apologize for the suddenly cancelled show last week.  A lot of stuff went down about 30 minutes before showtime, and I was occupied with another priority.

It can now we said:  This episode was supposed to be for MarriedandHeels.  I booked the afternoon off FOR HER.  And now we have to go on without her.  Thanks a lot.

Today I need to take it easy, so we’re going back to basics.  My first solo show in years.  I want to do it in the afternoon, not evening, so it’ll be 3:00 PM E.S.T.

I’ll be reading from Tim Durling’s book Unspooled.  I have my treasures from Max the Axe’s garage sale to show.  We have a demo of the Kenwood tape deck featuring the music of Grace Scheele.  I’ll be unboxing new discs, and otherwise just winging it!   Hope to see some of you then.  I know it’s not an ideal time, but I don’t want to be broadcasting live during sunset!  So afternoon it is.

Two surprise guests made this nice extra special:  John T. Snow of 2Loud2OldMusic, and my wife Jen!  Together with Harrison, Kevin and Rob, we looked at:

  • THE WEIRDEST CD WE HAVE EVER SEEN
  • Very rare Eric Carr and Van Halen RSD discs
  • Tons of blues!
  • Japanese imports!
  • Rare soundtracks!
  • Grab A Stack of Rock merch!
  • Van Halen bootlegs!
  • And as usual, we had “Ask Harrison” with Tee Bone Erickson and @marriedandheels.

Thanks for watching everyone!

It’s Friday Night, and Grab A Stack of Rock is Back with Harrison, Kevin, and Rob Daniels!

GRAB A STACK OF ROCK…with Mike and the Mad Metal Man
Episode 18:  New Arrivals (and some books)

It’s finally that time.  First cottage show of the year!  We have been looking forward to this since November.

This week, we plan on looking at some new musical arrivals with Harrison, Rob Daniels and Kevin “Canadian Grooves” Simister.  I’ll have some books to go over, and of course, we have “Ask Harrison” with a question from the California Girl.

Notes:  This being the first cottage show of the season, please allow for —

  • Wifi/power issues
  • Weather/potential indoor show
  • Murphy’s Law

But the show must go on, and we hope it will!  Please allow for any difficulties that a cottage show in April may cause, especially the first one.  Who knows if the internet will work in the weather we are expecting.  If all goes well, see you then!

Neurotic Outsiders on Grant’s Rock Warehaus TONIGHT!

Tonight I will be LIVE on Grant’s Rock Warehaus to discuss a forgotten 90s supergroup: the Neurotic Outsiders!

The 90s were a weird time.  For all intents and purposes, one of the biggest bands in the world was gone:  Guns N’ Roses.  We had to settle for solo albums from Duff, Slash, Gilby and Izzy.

Matt Sorum and Duff McKagan teamed up with Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols, and John Taylor from Duran Duran, to form the punky supergroup Neurotic Outsiders.  They made one album.  One and done!  But what an album it was.  We’ll be discussing all this and more tonight on Grant’s Rock Warehaus!

7:00 PM EST

Surprise guest @MarriedandHeels rocks your Friday with Mike, John, Rob and Jex (Grab A Stack of Rock #16.5)

Last night was a bounty of success, except for poor Mr. Jex, who suffered from wi-fi issues all night.  Thank you to Jexciter for showing up and playing along!  Rob Daniels, John T. Snow, and special surprise guest @MarriedAndHeels all joined in last night for a casual chat!

We successfully streamed to Rob’s Facebook, and the 2loud2oldmusic & Jex’s Vinyl World pages!  This will help us reach more viewers in the future.

Unfortunately, Tim Durling could not join us, which is a real shame since he was responsible for two of the albums I unboxed, both Japanese imports.

John had some rare Whitesnake and Bon Jovi to show us, Rob had a book and a Helix-related soundtrack, and Jex some Judas Priest and monster movies.

The California Girl known as @MarriedAndHeels showed us her new Nike’s that took her on a 12.5 mile run earlier this week!

We had a lively discussion about Richie Sambora/Bon Jovi, Kiss’ Farewell Tour, Star Wars and a myriad of topics!

Thanks for watching, and if you haven’t, then please give it a watch below!

Jex & the Gang Unbox Stuff, Talk About Stuff, and Rock About Stuff!

Sorry about the technical difficulties, and thanks to Harrison, John, Tim & Jex for holding down the fort!

Tonight we talked about Alice Cooper (a lot), made some jokes about Journey, held some Spoons while we Needed To Breathe, and plugged a PDF!  It was a great, casual and fun night full of music and stories.  It was a pleasure finally talking to Jex Russell face to face for the first time.  This was his first ever live show, and I messed up the start with technical issues!  Thanks for putting up with me Jex.

Ask Harrison returned this week after a long hiatus, with a question from Tee Bone and one from my parents.  Meanwhile,@marriedandheels had her picture taken with Eddie Van Halen’s Frankentrat!  We took a close look.  How cool is that?

Thanks for watching, see you next week!

Grab A Stack of Rock is Back with Jex Russell!

GRAB A STACK OF ROCK…with Mike and the Mad Metal Man
Episode 15:  Welcome Jex Russell!

There has been a heck of a lot going on here lately.  We need reset the show back to basics, back to the original intent.  That always was just hanging out with no plan!  So that’s what we’re doing.  Showing off whatever music they have lying around will be Harrison, Tim Durling, John Snow, and new arrival Jex Russell!  You might be familiar with the Friendly Frenchman from his stints on Scotch on the Rocks and Tim’s Vinyl Confessions.  Tonight he’ll grab a stack of rack with us and have a good time doing it!

Landings Unboxed! Grace Scheele joins Grab A Stack of Rock to talk about her debut cassette EP!

A blast (-off) was had yesterday, taking a look at Landings, the debut EP by electroacoustic harpist Grace Scheele!  It’s a concept EP about the Apollo 11 mission.  If you like science fiction, space, the moon, chilling, or not chilling, this cassette is for you!  Chromed plastic, sleek packaging, bonus tracks, what more could you ask?  And a small quantity is still available if you’d like your own copy!  You can get it at Bandcamp, and I’m getting a second copy while I still can.  Why?

  • Supporting independent artists is important.
  • Each tape comes hand-sealed in silver foil, with a sticker on the seam.
  • Cassette-only bonus tracks on the B-side!
  • Sensational packaging; chromed cassette shell.
  • Music that is truly out of this world.

Grace joined me on an impromptu short episode of Grab A Stack of Rock on Sunday afternoon, where she explained the creative process, the art, and other details.  Why cassette?  You’ll love the answer.  Also, find out what to do with an ornamental electric harp thingy if you want to have some fun with hacking!  Seriously!

Great little mini-episode!  Thank you Grace for sharing your time with us!

Pick up Landings on Bandcamp!
