Bicyclelegs: Marillion – Favourite Song From Each Album – Pt. 1: 1983-1995

I am so excited to appear on Bicyclelegs’ excellent YouTube channel for the first time!Β  To talk about Marillion is just an extra treat for me.

Bicyclelegs approached me a few weeks ago and asked if I’d be interested in picking my favourite song from each (studio) album.Β  Immediately I agreed.Β  Considering the depth of the discography, he decided to split this into two episodes.Β  This is part one:Β  the EMI years.Β  Four albums with Fish, and four albums with Steve Hogarth:

  • Script for a Jester’s Tear
  • Fugazi
  • Misplaced Childhood
  • Clutching at Straws
  • Seasons End
  • Holidays in Eden
  • Brave
  • Afraid of Sunlight

I found myself changing my lists up to the last day, but I think I’m happy with how this turned out.Β  What you will find in this show is a lot of love for some great songs, a little bit of history, and a lot of great music.

Here is what Bicyclelegs had to say:

Welcome to another episode of Favourite Song From Each Album. In this series we look at the catalogue of an artist and pick our favourite song from each studio album chronologically. Today Mike Ladano from Grab A Stack Of Rock joins me to talk Marillion and pick our favourite songs from the first 8 studio albums (the EMI years). We will come back in a month or two’s time to cover the rest of the catalogue. Enjoy!

#1159: The Community is Dead – Long Live the Community!

RECORD STORE TALES #1159:
The Community is Dead – Long Live the Community!

Once Upon A Time, the old WordPress music Community was an important part of our daily breakfast.Β  It was a wonderful way to connect and talk music with like-minded folks.Β  It was even a good way to seek support in our lives.

Then in 2023, the Community died.Β  I don’t know why, and I no longer care.Β  It’s possibly a “type of feint, or fake technique, whereby a player draws an opposing player out of position or skates by the opponent while maintaining possession and control of the puck.” People just…disappeared.Β  Ghosted.Β  I actually don’t want to know why.Β  “Let the past die,” Kylo Ren said.Β  “Kill it, if you have to.”Β  That is done, but not by my own hand.

I knew it was dead in 2024, when several people from the old Community refused to watch or acknowledge my trip to Toronto with Aaron, the Community’s spiritual leader.Β Β  It was a shunning, with intent.Β  Rest in peace, Community!

Whatever their issues are, I hope they find peace and harmony, wherever they went and whatever they are doing now.Β  I miss them. But there was a silver lining.

A new Community awaited me.Β  A bigger, more welcoming Community.Β  A Community that stretches from Australia to America, east coast to west, and up north to Canada.Β  A stronger Community. For me it began as the old Community died in 2023.Β  Marco D’Auria encouraged me to work with the Contrarians, and suddenly I started getting invites to appear on other shows, such as Rock Daydream Nation and My Music Corner.Β  With these fine folks, together, we have rebuilt what was lost.Β  Bigger, better, faster, stronger!

I welcome you to the Community!Β  A place where we support each other, collaborate, and celebrate the power of music!Β  A place where you will not be judged for your mistakes, nor shunned.

Welcome…I bid you welcome!
