#1073: An Hour of Radio in the Morning (2014)

I decided like Aaron to cover an hour in the morning, so it’s not too different from the programming he heard.  If I had done an afternoon, there would be some LeBrain promos on Marko’s show, but I chose the Midday Lockdown with DJ Patrick Dynamite.

  1. Glad to hear you’re on the healing path, buddy. Also glad to hear you’ve got your creative spark back.

Unrelated question: do you have Waffle House in Canada? Have you heard of the Waffle House restaurant chain?

      1. They must have a different stigma in your area. All the ones around me are viewed as a bit sketchy. They’re where drunk people go at 1am to eat flapjacks. I’ve had a couple very interesting experiences there. Always a good time though!

Speaking of fast food, have you tried the grilled cheese burrito at Taco Bell? I’m not even the biggest fan of that place, but lord that burrito is delicious. I discovered it a few months ago. Their nacho fries which are limited time only (just ran out) were the perfect side.

        1. I’m sure you’ve got several advantages on us in the menu department. All this stemmed from me going to Burger King a few weeks ago. I got a double bacon cheeseburger for under $3. I thought to myself, “this place is the Waffle House of burgers.” For people on their last legs, four sheets to the wind, or both.

        2. The burger sucked though, as does Burger King. They used to have a deal where you’d get $1 ten piece chicken nuggets. We’d get like 4-5 orders of those each in between classes in college, or before a night of heavy drinking with the buffalo and BBQ sauce. Of course now they’re way more expensive for less nuggets, but those were good times!

        3. The Wendy’s baconator is delicious. And I know you don’t have Five Guys in your area, but holy hell. They’re on another level. All their fries are fresh cut the day you order them, and they have a sign on the wall telling you where the potatoes came from. They also pour a shitload of fries in your bag on top of the cup of fries they already give you. So one order of large fries is like three large fries for the price of one. And they have Cajun fries that are to die for.

        4. Our Burger King bacon burger is just called Bacon Cheeseburger. It’s $2.49.

I’m gonna win the lottery and pay to move your entire family out here. Legal weed and cheap Burger King has to make a happy LeBrain.

        5. We do, although it’s not as close as the other places. You’d have to head a decent ways east, but it’s still in state. We just got WhatABurger from Texas, which I still haven’t tried. By just, I mean two years ago now. Geez. We’re supposed to get In ‘n’ Out soon.

        6. I live in a pretty small town that’s expanded heavily in recent years. If I walk three miles north, it’s rural country farmland. Three miles south, and I can choose from Taco Bell, Panda Express, Burger King, Culver’s, Domino’s, Sonic, McDonald’s, Subway, Starbucks, El Maguey, and several local owned restaurants.

When I moved in all we had was the Sonic and the Subway (and the few local restaurants).

        7. McDonald’s was the first restaurant to come here after the initial Sonic and Subway. It opened right next door to the Sonic, and the Sonic has never recovered!

Panda Express – decent Chinese fast food.
Culver’s – great burger. A little more upscale than the standard fast food place.
Sonic – a drive-in fast food burger. You can’t go inside. It’s a neat gimmick. The food is okay at best.
El Maguey – not fast food, it’s a sit down Mexican restaurant that’s respected.

        8. Culver’s rules too. One of the best fast food burgers around. Five Guy’s is the king though. If you ever visit, you gotta try one of those.

        9. It’s five guys to have enough strength to lift the tool carrying all the excess fries they give you into your bag.

        10. I’ve had a couple very strange experiences at Waffle House after midnight. Not in a while though. It’s a good way to meet interesting people.

    1. I don’t know what to say except thank you. It has been a hard 3 months but it’s over now. She’s gone from my life for good now.

I have good news for you if liked Arkells (which makes me so happy!) I got 2 more Arkells albums on CD and a whole bunch of EPs on iTunes. LOTS of Arkells reviews incoming. I really like their acoustic greatest hits album so far, called Campfire Chords.

      1. I showed a mate of mine one of your posts about her.

And he said he would checked out her boobs in a heartbeat. Then his wife slapped him in the back of the head for it.

We debated it. It felt like a Seinfield episode. Like when George was backing into a parking spot and then someone went front in. And they all debated who was in the right.

        You did the right thing.

I like songs done acoustically so I’ll check out Campfire Chords. And I like the band because they connect lyrically with me.

        1. I just had this weird moment of realizing — people are debating this! I find that amusing, satisfying, and bizarre all at once! But thank you. I know I did the right thing for me. She’ll never understand it and that’s the problem. Arkells got me through that!

Campfire Chords is playing as we speak, and it is AWESOME! Every song. I prefer some of the acoustic versions to the studio.
