The Aftermath: Tim’s Vinyl Confessions Episode 351 with Tim and LeBrain

On Saturday Tim Durling, and I recorded a fantastic episode of Tim’s Vinyl Confessions about rare CDs that received loads of comments and questions!  Tim has been wanting to try going live for a while now, so Sunday morning we went for it with a followup show!

So, yes: That means this weekend there were three hours of Tim and I yammering about music!  But apparently they were a good three hours according to viewer feedback.  Here’s the “Aftermath” show that we did at 7:30 AM on a Sunday!  Loads of fun — I love mornings!

LeBrain Train Upcoming Live Schedule:

  • Friday February 18, 7:00 PM:  Top Albums from the Year 2000
  • Friday March 12, 7:00 PM:  Ten Year Anniversary of Record Store Tales

Tim’s Vinyl Confessions Ep. 351: Rare CDs with Mike Ladano

This morning I had a blast taping this episode of Tim’s Vinyl Confessions! Together we showed off some of our rarest CDs.  That’s part of the pleasure of being a collector:  sharing our treasure with you!

Thanks for having me Tim!  Enjoy this awesome two-hour extravaganza of digital rarities!

VHS Archives #118: Ray Gillen & Jake E Lee of Badlands (1991)

Badlands made a great second record together, but the timing was all wrong.  If coming out in the summer of ’91 against Van Halen, Metallica, Skid Row, and Guns N’ Roses didn’t mean certain doom, then Kurt, Eddie, Layne and Chris would finish them off. On the road to promote the Voodoo Highway album, Jake E. Lee and Ray Gillen dropped by MuchMusic to chat.  The former Ozzy guitarist and former Sabbath vocalist might have had a sense that the album wasn’t getting the push that the debut received, but they don’t let on in this interview.  A goofy Jake plays with Ray’s head while Ray tries to answer a question.

Topics:

  • Jake not being very good at returning phone calls (the formation of the band)
  • Diversity in music
  • “The Last Time” music video

Unspooled… Unboxed! We opened up Tim Durling’s new book live on the LeBrain Train

It has come! And I’m in it!

Sunday Screening: “Community” – isolated live Aaron reaction video

For your convenience and enjoyment, here is an isolated video of the moment we surprised Aaron with the new Tee Bone Erickson music video “Community”. I will remember this night always.

SURPRISE! A Tribute to Aaron from the Community! Featuring new video by Tee Bone!

The secret is out!  This show was a month in planning.  We have been wanting to do a tribute to AARON from the KMA for some time now, due to his passion for Community.  And tonight we finally did it, surprising him with a blindside like no other!

For the last month, Tee Bone has been secretly toiling away on his new magnum opus, like a Mr. Holland gone mad, with late nights and early mornings.

Now we can reveal the truth:  the Community that Aaron nurtured has repaid him in song.  The new track “Community” features our contributions and our tributes to the man.  The very first duet with Tee Bone and Meat together, and the first vocal contributions from LeBrain and Geoff Stephen in a Tee Bone song!  And we got to spring the surprise on him live!  His reactions are on video for you to see yourself.

We had a full house tonight with Harrison, Kevin, Sarah, Geoff, Meat, John Snow and Tee Bone all in the house with James and Aaron!  A first!

Key points:

  • Interview with Aaron and James begins at 15:30.
  • The surprise is sprung at 46:30, followed by the debut of the “Community” music video.

If you were able to watch live, thank you for helping making Aaron’s party something truly special!

You will be able to buy “Community” on Bandcamp next week.  Wahoo!!

The KeepsMeAlive Saturday Special episode of the LeBrain Train!

The LeBrain Train: 2000 Words or More with Mike Ladano

Episode 97 – The KMA Saturday Special

DO NOT miss this.  Join Harrison and I for a special Saturday evening show!  We replace the usual Friday night chat with special guests…

AARON AND JAMES FROM THE KMA!

If you are reading this, then you are a part of the community!  The Keeps Me Alive guys were here first, rocking us since 2006 with their passion for music.  James is the “concerts guy” where reviews are concerned, and this is his very first time going live with us.  Harrison will be grilling James on just why he wanted me to eat a worm and a stick for $7.  Meanwhile, I’ll be asking about beginnings.  Why did these two guys decide to start writing about music anyway?  And what’s the secret to their longevity?

This show has been a long time coming!  I have wanted to spotlight the KMA for a year and a half now.  Tonight will be a good time, I promise you.

Saturday February 5, 7:00 PM E.S.T. on YouTubeFacebook and also Facebook!

Sunday Screening: The Contrarians – Episode 63: Def Leppard – Hysteria

It’s the episode I’ve been waiting forever for! Tim Durling vs. Martin Popoff on Def Leppard’s legendary Hysteria!  I’ve been consistent in my love for this controversial album since its 1987 release.  So has Tim!  Meanwhile, Martin gave the album a pounding 0/10 score in Riff Kills Man!  Hysteria sucks righteously!”

Let’s see how Tim holds up in this episode, shall we?

Tomorrow in the Def Leppard review series, Tim will be returning to talk about the Soundtrack From the Video Historia.  Don’t miss it.

Thanks Marco for letting me participate! The Contrarians Panel: Dark Horse Album #7 – Judas Priest’s Rocka Rolla

Last week, I asked Marco from the Contrarians to sit in with us for our Top Five Tony Martin albums.  Unfortunately he could not join us live due to a taping of the Contrarians that night.  Instead he sent us a great video that allowed him to participate, a highlight of the show.  And as an added bonus, Marco asked me to participate in his Contrarians taping!  My very first Contrarians appearance.  The subject was Judas Priest’s Rocka Rolla, an album I have been playing a lot recently due to my recent acquisition of the 50 Heavy Metal Years of Music box set.  My part is right near the beginning.  After watching the in-depth analysis the group did, I wish I had contributed something a little more insightful.  However, this is such an honour and privilege to participate.  I can’t thank you enough Marco!

A Treasure Trove of Picture Discs with 2Loud2OldMusic

Brilliant show and tell tonight with John from 2Loud2OldMusic!  Iron Maiden and Def Leppard made up a large chunk of our picture disc collections that you will see by watching the live stream below.  Awesome comments from hardcore collectors and show regulars.  Enjoy the Buried On Mars vs. Everybody commentary on Leppard!

Thank you John for co-hosting tonight, and thank you everyone for hanging out on a Friday night.  See you next Saturday!

Upcoming Schedule:

DO NOT miss next week!  A special Saturday evening show replaces the usual Friday night as we chat with…

AARON AND JAMES FROM THE KMA!

If you are reading this, then you are a part of the community!  The Keeps Me Alive guys were here first!  Geoff from 1001 Albums, Scott our Heavy Metal Overlord, and LeBrain all came after.  I consider James and Aaron to the founders of the community.  Saturday February 5 at 7:00 PM, we will sit down and chat with Aaron and (for the first time ever) James about their history with music and writing about it.  This show has been a long time coming!  I have wanted to spotlight the KMA for a year and a half now!

We will also have a 10 Year Anniversary of Record Store Tales and a 2 Year Anniversary of the LeBrain Train, both coming in March!  If you would like to participate in either, drop us a line.
