Of all the titles available, The Rise of Skywalker was the last thing I expected Episode IX to be called.
The end of a saga. Over 40 years of movies. We never thought there would be a sequel trilogy. Now we’re winding it up, and the whole damn saga too!
Which Skywalker will rise? What’s with the Death Star? The Emperor’s laugh? LANDO! Set course for December.
Sad news this morning. I’d heard through the grapevine recently that one of the members of Blotto was sick. I had a bad feeling about it and this morning I read that Greg Haymes, aka Sergeant Blotto, has passed away from cancer.
This is particularly bitter for me. I only got into Blotto last year. I was so into them that Blotto became my favourite band of 2018. As we drove to and from Toronto to take care of my sick mother in law, we had Blotto blaring in the car almost every time. “Mum” was dying of cancer, and Blotto helped us forget and just laugh while rocking out.
Now Greg Haymes is gone from the very same, dreadful disease, and I’m pissed off.
Haymes was a writer, a musician, and an artist. I’m sorry I only got to know his music in the last year.
Hopefully Blotto can bring you some of the joy that they brought to me when I needed it. Here’s “I Wanna Be A Lifeguard” featuring Greg “Sarge” Haymes on lead vocals.
HAMILTON: Word has been received from the netherworld that former WWF superstar Iron Mike Sharpe has abdicated his title as Canada’s Greatest Athlete.
Sharpe died in 2016. The word was received during an unsanctioned seance at the Hamilton Victoria Curling Club in Sharpe’s home town of Hamilton Ontario.
According to witnesses, curling champ Kevin Koe was visiting the area when a Ouija board was found under a pile of brooms. Koe suggested using the board to contact Canada’s Greatest Athlete, reportedly a great inspiration for the curler. Within minutes they had Sharpe on the line.
“I am no longer Canada’s Greatest Athlete,” spelled Sharpe from the grave. “There is another. Her name is Bonnie Ladano. She curls like Rachel Homan and Jennifer Jones in one. Her double-raise take out, and tap backs are unrivaled in sport today. She must be known as Canada’s Greatest Athlete.”
May her sweep always hurry hard. Bonnie Ladano is Canada’s Greatest Athlete!

November 30: HELLO HOPELESS CD release
Hello Hopeless are a great new punk band from the local scene. They are releasing their second EP Dark Pasts, Brighter Futures and I promise you, it’s a gooder. I had the chance to sit down and interview the band recently, and that will be out soon. I learned that they put a lot of time and effort into the mix to get it sounding just how they wanted. And don’t let the punk tag fool you. These guys aren’t afraid of guitar solos. I look forward to sharing the video interview — you are going to like Hello Hopeless! Max the Axe
December 8: MAX THE AXE CD release / with the Hellen Keller Band
“You Gotta” check out the new album by Max the Axe called Status Electric. According to Max, it’s his “3rd LP and 6th record.” Max has put everything into this one. On lead vocals: Uncle Meat. If you follow this site regularly I guarantee that you will see some familiar faces at the Boathouse on December 8. Various flavours of hard rock from old men — it fucking rips! And you’ll hear it live at the Boathouse.

Helix drummer Greg “Fritz” Hinz had an accident at home. He fell off a roof, fractured his skull and broke some vertebrae. He is in a medically induced coma. Injuries are supposed to be non-life threatening.
According to Helix singer Brian Vollmer, Fritz has a lot of rehab ahead. All our thoughts and prayers are with the Hinz family as they deal with Greg’s health.

Stan, you just had to go, I know that. You’ve been here for 95 years and entertaining us for most of them. You gave, and you gave, and you gave. You deserve your rest now.
Stan, I knew who Spider-man was before I knew the Prime Minister of Canada. You brought me the Star Wars comics that kept me going between movies. Through those pages I discovered all that so many of my favourite heroes were yours! Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men…I always preferred Marvel to DC and I can’t really explain why. I liked Superman, but the Marvel lineup was so much better than DC’s. Their characters were more interesting to me, and it was addictive, how storylines weaved through one title to another.
My dad would buy me one new comic on the trip to the cottage each time. I always chose Marvel.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if some version of Spider-man is still popular in another 95 years. Perhaps these characters you helped create will be remembered as literary classics. If not, I am confident that the Marvel heroes will be a part of our cultural backdrop for a long, long time.

Two takeaways:
1. Paul Stanley sounded good. Much better than recent tours.
2. Kiss announced their upcoming tour will be their last.
Haven’t we heard this before? Yes we sure have. Given age, it’s much more believable now. The tour could last three years according to Gene.
