MOVIE REVIEW: Super Troopers 2 (2018)

Super Troopers 2ย delights but is destined to become just another cult film

SUPER TROOPERS 2ย (2018 Broken Lizard)

Directed by:ย ย Jay Chandrasekhar

It took 17 years and a crowdfunding campaign, but we now live in a world where a sequel to Super Troopersย (2001) exists!ย  Judging by the mostly empty theatre on Saturday afternoon, Super Troopers 2 looks to become…another cult film.ย  Which is a shame really, because these beloved screwup cops are adored for a reason.ย  And that reason is Rod Farva.

Fear not Farva fans, for your favourite character played by Kevin Heffernan is again the butt of everyone’s pranks.ย  Thorny, Foster, Mac, Rabbit (still the rookie!) and Captain O’Hagen are reunited once again by Governor Jessman (Lynda Carter), who insists it’s the entire original team.ย  That means they’re stuck with Rod Farva like deja-vu.ย  Maybe they can stick him with the radio.

You see, only Vermont’s favourite cops can handle this job.ย  It turns out a big chunk of Canada near the border was surveyed wrong.ย  It actually belongs to the United States, and custody is about to be handed over.ย  The local Mounties will be replaced by US cops.ย  And that’s our gang.ย  How d’you think that’s gonna go over in Canada, eh?ย  Will we still be allowed to listen to Rush?

Mayor Guy LeFranc (Rob Lowe) is an ex-hockey enforcer known as the “Halifax Explosion”.ย  (Fun fact:ย  in real life, actor Rob Lowe is “obsessed” with the historical Halifax explosion of 1917.)ย  He seems friendly, but the locals and Mounties take an instant dislike to the US cops.ย  (Will Sasso, who really is Canadian, plays the funniest of the three Mounties.ย  Brampton’s Tyler Labine plays another.)ย  As you can imagine the drama unfolds against a backdrop of US and Canadian stereotypes.ย  Guns and “MAGA” vs. beer and “Eh”.

Our favourite cops find a hidden stash of drugs on abandoned property.ย  Sending them to a lab for testing would take two weeks, so of course they sample the drugs themselves to identify them.ย  This is how Thorny played byย Jay Chandrasekhar becomes addicted to a hormone product called “Flova Scotia”.

Fans won’t want any more spoiled.ย  There are cameos too, so don’t look at the Wikipedia page and just wait to be surprised.ย  It was pleasant to see Marisa Coughlan (Chief Ursulu Hanson) and Lynda Carter back from the original film.ย  Brian Cox (Captain O’Hagen) is a serious Scottish actor of impeccable reputation (the Royal Shakespeare Company for example), and the fact that he came back for Super Troopers 2 must mean he’s a good shit.

Original music was performed by Eagles of Death Metal.ย  Give them credit for a good soundtrack, including a cover of “Blinded by the Light”.

Super Troopers 2 follows the formula of the first, meaning the plot doesn’t matter because you’re just waiting for the next prank.ย  Honestly though, this drug smuggling plot is an original one that has probably never been done before.ย  Expect some jokes from the original to be sequel-ed.ย  Liters of cola, “meow”…just go see it.

Super Troopers 2 is playing now at a theatre near you.

REVIEW: Deep Purple – The InFinite Live Recordings Vol. 1 (2017)

DEEP PURPLE – The InFinite Live Recordings Vol. 1 (2017 Ear Music)

The all-time kings of the live album have finally released…another live album!ย  It’s boldly titledย The InFinite Live Recordings Vol. 1, implying that another live set isn’t far off.ย  The gimmick this time (aside from being 100% live with no overdubs, which is now the Purple norm) is thatย The InFinite Live Recordings Vol. 1 is only available on vinyl, or by re-buying InFinite in its new “Gold” European edition reissue.ย  If you’d prefer avoiding the double-dip, then the only way to enjoyย The InFinite Live Recordings Vol. 1ย is by spinning the triple 180 gram LP set.

So let’s do that.

This album is the complete Deep Purple set from Hellfest 2017 (June 16 2017 in Clisson, France).ย  The always fearless band opened with the brand new “Time for Bedlam” single.ย  The intro and outro are dicey (weird vocal sound effects) but then Deep Purple suddenly plows straight into “Fireball”.ย  Somehow Ian Paice transforms into his younger self and there is nothing lost.ย  Going back even further in time, it’s “Bloodsucker” from Deep Purple In Rock.

The oldies, like “Strange Kind of Woman” and “Lazy”, are more or less just filler.ย  Even though they’re always different, you’ve heard them so many times while the newer songs are fresh meat.ย  “Uncommon Man” is long and exploratory, while “The Surprising” and “Birds of Prey” are more than welcome on the live stage.ย  In particular, “Uncommon Man” and “The Surprising” are showcases for Deep Purple’s progressive side, sometimes taken for granted.ย  Both must be considered among the greatest Morse-era Purple songs.ย  Both stun the senses, live.

While there was a live version of “Hell to Pay” (from Sweden) on the fairly recent single “Johnny’s Band”, another one in the context of the set is cool because it naturally introduces Don Airey’s keyboard solo (listen for a hint of “Mr. Crowley”).ย  And that solo segues into “Perfect Strangers” after you place the third LP on the platter.

The usual suspects close out the set:ย  “Space Truckin'”, “Smoke on the Water”, “Hush” (with a detour into the “Peter Gunn” theme) and “Black Night”.ย  The reason Deep Purple get away with playing generous amounts of new material is because, without fail, they always deliver the Machine Head hits.

These live recordings were produced by Bob Ezrin, so you can count on great audio.ย  Why should you choose this over the numerous other Deep Purple live albums from the Morse era?ย  Because it is always a pleasure hearing new songs on the concert stage.ย  Deep Purple have remained consistent over the decades and each live album offers a brief snapshot of a set you might never hear again.

REVIEW: Black Sabbath – Past Lives (2002)

BLACK SABBATH – Past Lives (2002 Sanctuary)
(CD 1 is a reissue of 1980’s Live at Last (NEMS))

Black Sabbath’s Live at Last (1980) has been reissued so often that its Discogs listing shows 81 distinct versions.ย  Those don’t include the Black Sabbath live set Past Lives, of which Live at Last forms its first CD.ย  The second disc is all unreleased live versions, from shows in 1970 and 1975.ย  These consist of some of the big Sabbath numbers that weren’t on Live at Last (“Iron Man”, “Black Sabbath”) and more obscure material like “Hole in the Sky”.

“Hand of Doom” from Paranoidย is an unusual though doomy way to open the CD.ย  It rolls from gentle bass to a roaring mania.ย  It is a taut performance largely because of Bill Ward’s enviable swing.ย  “Hand of Doom” was recorded in 1970, but jumping ahead to ’75, Ozzy’s intro to “Hole in the Sky” is cute.ย  It wasn’t out yet.ย  “Listen to it, you might like it, OK?” asks Ozzy.ย  Then, “Are you high?ย  Are you high?ย  So am I!”

Some Sabbath songs are like a brand new bulldozer, unrelentlessly heavy, yet shiny and cool.ย  “Hole in the Sky” is one such riff-monster, an indispensable slab of heavy metal.ย  It’s followed by another new one, and even heavier:ย  “Symptom of the Universe”.ย  Young, wasted Sabbath blast through it — and stay the fuck out of Bill Ward’s way!ย  The drummer is a tornado.ย  “Megalomania” makes it a perfect trifecta of new songs.ย  It’s an epic 10 minutes of different paces, riffs and melodies.ย  Unlike other metal bands, Sabbath often welded two or three unforgettable riffs together into mega-compositions.ย  Look at “Black Sabbath” for example — they could have made two songs out of it, but instead we have one massive monolith.ย  On stage, “Megalomania” is tense and never boring.ย  Ozzy shreds his voice to pieces.

As far as Past Lives goes, these three songs (“Hole in the Sky”, “Symptom of the Universe” and “Megalomania”) are the nugget of gold in the middle.ย  It’s a first official live release for most of them.ย  A live “Symptom of the Universe” was issued by a Tony Martin-era lineup on 1995’s Cross Purposes ~ Live, but that cannot compete with the vintage original lineup.*

It’s only oldies from there in.ย  “Iron Man”, “Fairies Wear Boots” and “Black Sabbath” (with unique Tony Iommi guitar intro) make up for their absence on Live at Last.ย  “N.I.B.” and “Behind the Wall of Sleep” from the first Sabbathย round out the set.ย  Nobody did them better than the original band in the 1970s.

Today we have more original Sabbath to choose from that just Past Lives; two complete concerts were included in the recent Paranoid 4 CD box set.ย  Back in 2002, this kind of release warranted bigger fanfare.ย ย The audio is not pristine.ย  Flutter, static and amp hum are part of the deal.ย  If you’re into buying archival live material, you know what this is about.

The original digipack release of Past Lives comes with a booklet, a poster, and most importantly a guitar pick.ย  Collectors will probably want to hold out for a version with pick intact, though finding one might be a “holy grail” item.ย  If you don’t care about such things, a simple jewel case release is widely available.

REVIEW: Black Sabbath – Live at Last (1980)

BLACK SABBATH – Live at Last (1980 NEMS)

Although the Black Sabbath discography is not that complicated, we still struggle to know exactly how to file Live at Last.ย  Recorded in 1973 (Vol. 4 tour), it was shelved because the band were not happy with it.ย  Much later on (1980) it was released officially but without the band’s consent or knowledge.ย  They have shunned it, while Live at Last has enjoyed a number of re-releases and remasters.ย  For maximum fun, why not track down an old vinyl pressing with the singer’s name spelled as Ossie Osbourne?ย  (The vinyl pressing is also one way to get a completely unedited version; most CD releases lack at least the band intro.)

Live at Last was, for many many years, the only live Black Sabbath album with Ozzy.ย  Live Evil, released in 1982, had then-current frontman Ronnie James Dio.ย  Although considered a sub-par album, you didn’t have much choice back then.ย  Excessive Tony Iommi guitar feedback may be one reason the band weren’t happy with it.

Starting with new single “Tomorrow’s Dream”, Sabbath sound coked to the brim.ย  Iommi’s guitar pukes sonic sludge, Bill Ward floating behind, and Geezer playing bass melodies from another world.ย  “Sweet Leaf” continues the trip; Ozzy howling “I love you!” while the stoned band pummels through.ย  Original Sabbath has a looseness that no other lineup possessed.ย  It’s just something special that happens with those four guys, and Bill Ward had the swing to it all.

Brand new tune “Killing Yourself to Live” hadn’t been released yet, but it’s pretty intact in live form.ย  “Get high!” screams Oz.ย  The challenging song demonstrates Sabbath’s ability to meld multiple memorable guitar riffs together into a single whole.ย  “Killing Yourself to Live” has at least three distinct riff sections, each cooler than the last.ย  Unfortunately the recording doesn’t allow us to really hear how the audience responded to the new material.

“Cornucopia” alone could be responsible for birthing half of grunge rock.ย  The young band’s energy is remarkable.ย  “Snowblind” is a blast, with Ozzy shouting “CO-CAINE!” rather than whispering slyly. Closing side one, we come to “Embryo/Children of the Grave” and its unforgettable chug riff that launched many a metal band.ย  You can hear the crowd clapping madly at Ozzy’s command to “Embryo”, before the riff cascades down like the Biblical flood.ย  Bill Ward paces it faster than the album version by several notches.ย ย “War Pigs” also swings, a little faster than album, but with an unusually jazzy touch.

For some serious swing, check out the 20 minute “Wicked World” medley.ย  Ward jazzes it up like nobody’s business, when he’s not crushing the heavy parts.ย  Tony Iommi has a varied guitar solo section, becoming “Into the Void”, then a blues jam and the old standard “Sometimes I’m Happy”.ย  That turns into “Supernaut” and a drum solo, before reverting right back into “Wicked World” for the finale!ย  This insane extended track is the one to buy the album for.

After asking the audience several times “What do you wanna hear?”, Ozzy closes with “Paranoid”.ย  Once again it’s quite fast with Bill ahead of the beat.ย  Osbourne tells the crowd that they’re beautiful and of course “we love you all!”ย  and that’s that — a one hour live album on a single LP, all done.ย  No “Black Sabbath”, no “Fairies Wear Boots” or “Iron Man”, but plenty of the blackest Sabbaths.

Recommended CD edition:ย  Black Sabbath’s 2002 Past Lives set, which includes a slightly edited version of Live at Lastย plus a whole CD more of unreleased live stuff.ย  It even has a sticker on the front that says “Live at Last…deluxe edition”!ย  Full review of that CD tomorrow.

REVIEW: Accept – The Rise of Chaos (2017 coloured vinyl)

ACCEPT – The Rise of Chaos (2017 Nuclear Blast blue and orange splatter limited vinyl edition)

Over the past decade, Accept have joined a rare pantheon.ย  They are among the few metal bands with “replacement singers” that have continued with honour, and without constant clamouring for older lineups.ย  Mark Tornillo has, over the course over several great albums, earned his place without question.ย  The Rise of Chaos (with producer Andy Sneap) continues the journey, full steam ahead.

The blue and orange swirl vinyl edition is a double record set, limited to 700 copies.ย  Not only do they look stunning, but they sound vibrant and crisp.ย  A 46 minute album could easily have fit on a single LP, so the fact they did a double means they wanted to ensure maximum musical reproduction for vinyl buyers.*

Wolf, Mark, Peter, Uwe and Christopher crush it throughout.ย  “Die By the Sword”, the initial assault, is a lightning strike of sharp riffing and Baltes’ bass undercurrent.ย  This is pure Accept:ย  gothic backing vocals and overhead screams!ย  “Hole in the Head” boils over with animosity, delivered molten.ย  Then, like a Panzer division at full speed, “The Rise of Chaos” rips the heads off anything still standing.

Flip sides.ย  “Koolaid” retells the story of Jim Jones and the cult of the damned, a topic previously explored by Manowar.ย  With a riff written as if out of 1984, it takes on a mid-tempo groove rock march.ย  Yes, it’s possible the best song on the Accept album is named “Koolaid”!ย  Then the heat put off by “No Regrets” will blister the skin, if the drums don’t give you a concussion.

Flip sides.ย  Taking it back to a sharp metallic groove, “Analog Man” is an amusing look at our high tech world.ย  “Now there’s flat-screens and 3-D, my cell phone’s smarter than me!” They go for an anthemic style with “What’s Done is Done”, and plenty of guitar harmony solos to go around.ย  “Worlds Colliding” has the “classic metal” sound, brilliant riff and chorus combined for a slick mercury-like sound.

Flip sides one more time.ย  Neither “Carry the Weight” and “Race to Extinction” let up.ย  It’s 10 more minutes of fast, heavy metal.ย  Make no mistake, this is one punishing metal album.ย  Is it a little paint-by-numbers?ย  Yes — Accept albums are getting that way.ย  Riffs might be interchangeable.ย  But when the albums are still this good, it matters little.

REVIEW: Bon Jovi – Red Hot and 2 Parts Live (1985 EP)

All hail the mighty Aaron of the KMA.ย  He is a very generous man.ย  He is known to send parcels to friends all over the world, and he always keeps an eye out for things that people look for.ย  He’s incredible that way, and he deserves a tremendous amount of recognition for all he does for the Community.

BON JOVI – Red Hot and 2 Parts Live (1985 red vinyl Polygram EP)

Preamble:ย ย Although I forgot about this, back in the fall Aaron did his regular Toronto shopping excursion.ย  He found a Bon Jovi 12″ single that I’d never seen before.ย  But I was tapped out, cash wise.ย  I had done my own Toronto trip to pick up an an absolutely massive toy for my collection.ย  Apparently he texted me about the Bon Jovi, and I asked him to leave it there because I couldn’t afford it.ย  Naturally he bought it anyway and secretly stashed it away.

Aaron sent me a big box of goodies for Christmas (and reviews of those will come too!) but the Bon Jovi was the centerpiece.ย  I didn’t actually open this box of goodies until Easter.ย  Due to illness and circumstance, our family finally just got around to celebrating Christmas.ย  I saved his box until then.

This three song EP, on brilliant clear red vinyl, has two live tracks and one remix.ย  “Hardest Part is the Night” (fromย 7800ยฐ Fahrenheit) was mixed by David Theoner though the differences are minor.ย  Interestingly, it was also issued as its own single with “Always Run to You” on the B-side.

The other two tracks were recorded live in Japan in 1985.ย  “Tokyo Road” was later released on the remasteredย 7800ยฐ Fahrenheitย as a bonus track, but that CD doesn’t look nearly as pretty as this vinyl.ย ย It’s a little odd hearing Jon introduce it by saying, “Welcome back to ‘Tokyo Road’…” when in fact they were the visitors in Tokyo, but whatever!ย  Jon’s the professional frontman, not me.ย  “In and Out of Love” is the real treat, featuring an extended guitar solo, and a different version from the one onย 7800ยฐ Fahrenheit.ย  The track is still over 10 minutes long with all that (smoking) noodlin’, but Sambora fans who miss him will want to have this.

Fans of early Bon Jovi — hunt down this EP.ย  Get it or live your life without this awesome live Bon Jovi that you won’t get otherwise.

REVIEW: Trailer Park Boys – Season 12 (2018)

TRAILER PARK BOYS โ€“ย Season 12ย
(2018 Netflix)

Like any franchise with an extended lifespan, Trailer Park Boys has fans both devoted and hyper-critical.ย  Many are just glad the series is still continuing and still funny.ย  Others whine that the style has changed and many original cast members (Jonathan Torrens, Lucy Decoutere, Mike Jackson, Barrie Dunn) have left.ย  The death of John Dunsworth (Mr. Lahey) late last year put things into perspective.ย  Just be glad we have Trailer Park Boys at all.ย  John finished season 12, which was lovingly dedicated to him.

What’s the Boys’ deal this time?ย  After much pressuring from Bubbles, Ricky and Julian agree to go “legit”.ย  Bubbles is already running a successful brewing company.ย  Green Bastard beer is a hit.ย  Julian gets a job working for Gary in security at the mall.ย  And Ricky?ย  Odd jobs around the park.ย  The first is an unmitigated and hilarious disaster.ย  Things go way off the rails from there.

Lahey and Randy are back, with Bo-bandy trying to keep Jim from causing trouble.ย  But they need help supervising the park, and hire old nemesis George Green.ย  Barb Lahey’s still in charge, and a thorn in everyone’s side.ย  Sarah, Trinity, Jacob and Corey still reside in Sunnyvale.ย  And wait until you see what Ricky has done to the Shitmobile.ย  (Turned it into a two storey home with two TVs and both upstairs and downstairs bathrooms.)

One of the reasons you don’t miss Lucy this season is because she’s been replaced by Susan (Susan Kent of This Hour Has 22 Minutes).ย  She’s batshit crazy and mad for Ricky.ย  Their on-off-on-off relationship is a source of many of Ricky’s problems.ย  All he really needs is a break.ย  Maybe he’ll catch one from some “Angel Shit Sent Down From Jesus God”.

You’ll see.

Julian might even have a shot at love.ย  An old girlfriend, from all the way back in season one, reappears in his life….

The season ties into the real world release of the official Trailer Park Boys beer called Freedom 35.ย  It’s a fictional take on how that beer got to the store shelves.ย  Bubbles, who now drives his own green truck, has a secret recipe and it’s caught the notice of the Halifax Beer company.ย  They want to pay Bubbles to sell his brew!ย  Can Bubbles ramp up his production, or will Ricky fuck it all up?

Without spoiling too much of the fun, the best episode this season is called “Happy Birthday Bubbles”.ย  If you liked the old episode when the Boys played “space” and fired a rocket, you’ll love this one.ย  I hope Steve Rogers makes a full recovery though his helicopter sure is fucked.ย  Best of all, this season we return to the arena where Ricky shines like no other:ย  the courtroom.ย  Judge Ticklebury presiding.

Knowing that Jim Lahey has taken his last drinky-poo gives the season a bittersweet flavour.ย  How does the show continue now?ย  We don’t know, so just enjoy season 12 for what it is.

REVIEW Round-up: Guns N’ Roses “Not In This Lifetime” Tour (Guest editorial)

GUNS N’ ROSES “Not In This Lifetime” Tour

By David Martin

A little while ago we reached back to the late-โ€˜80s with a review of a Guns Nโ€™ Roses live session in New York. It wasnโ€™t a perfect recording, but itโ€™s a nice glance back to the early days of a band thatโ€™s become one of rockโ€™s truly iconic groups. Another interesting thing about looking back at this time is that Guns Nโ€™ Roses has, against the odds, become something of a modern sensation.

Our first hints ought to have been when GNR started showing up anew in non-music pop culture. The band put out a vague teaser trailer before screenings of Star Wars: The Force Awakens for instance, and also partnered with an online developer to produce a video game in 2016. The latter was particularly random, though it makes sense when you look at the industry. An Australian gaming resource site states simply that presentation is a huge factor on betting and gaming sites, and part of that means introducing visually and sonically interesting games โ€“ like a slot reel based on an iconic rock band, in this case.

Neither a teaser trailer nor a video game tipped us off to what would actually start in the spring of 2016 โ€“ one of the most surprising tours, arguably in all of musical history. The band took the stage at Coachella โ€“ with Axl Rose and Slash sharing the stage for the first time in years โ€“ and kicked off an international slate of shows that ultimately extended into 2018. The tour, dubbed โ€œNot In This Lifetime,โ€ has become one of the most successful in modern history from a financial standpoint. And while reviewing it in its entirety isnโ€™t easy (or necessarily possible) we can look at a roundup of reviews for particular shows along the way.

Coachella (April โ€™16) โ€“ โ€œThe magic was absent.โ€ This was a take from Vice, building on a headline suggesting that Guns Nโ€™ Roses had shown its age at the Coachella show. The review noted hints of pleasure when the band played the hits, as well as Slashโ€™s enduring skill, but ultimately pointed to a lack of chemistry and the simple ravages of time as reasons for an underwhelming reunion.

Detroit (June โ€™16) โ€“ โ€œThis was history being made.โ€ This comment came from none other than Rolling Stone, in a piece that directly refuted some of the earlier reviews. Citing a straightened out lineup and an Axl Rose out of the foot cast heโ€™d appeared in for Coachella, it painted the picture of a reunion tour that had found its groove.

London (June โ€™17) โ€“ โ€œYou canโ€™t blow the roof off a stadium that doesnโ€™t have one, but they damn well tried.โ€ So said The Guardian after one of GNRโ€™s European shows, painting a picture not only of an electric performance, but of the thrill for an original fan seeing the band back in action again.

Cleveland (October โ€™17) โ€“ โ€œGuns Nโ€™ Roses have no intention of coasting to the finish line.โ€ This was a take offered on one of the tourโ€™s later dates. Not only was it yet another positive review, but it was one with the perspective to mention the almost universally positive response to the tour โ€“ as well as growing hopes of fresh material from the group.

All in all the impression left by the โ€œNot In This Lifetimeโ€ tour is that while there are occasional frustrations stemming from the simple fact that the bandโ€™s members have aged, itโ€™s been good to have them back. And on some occasions, theyโ€™ve absolutely wowed all their old fans.

REVIEW: Winger – The Very Best Of (2001)

WINGER – The Very Best Of (2001 Atlantic/Rhino)

Winger broke up in ’94, but reunited in 2001.ย  Part of the reunion entailed new music.ย  Before they finally released a new album (Winger IV), they tested the waters with one new song on The Very Best of Winger.ย  Yes indeed, you had to buy a “greatest hits” to get the new song.ย  At least Winger also gave you a Japanese bonus track for your money too.

New tune “On the Inside” was written for Pull (their third album and last before breakup) but recorded for Very Best Of.ย  It’s a chunky, heavy tune with splashes of anthemic keyboard in the chorus.ย  It really underlines that Winger could write and play with integrity when they wanted to.ย  Reb Beach’s solo is unorthodox and outside the box.ย  “Hell to Pay” is listed as an outtake, but it was actually released as a Japanese bonus track to Pull.ย  Stuff like this saves collectors for shelling out mucho dinero for a Japanese import.ย  Good sassy tune, and listen for that scorching outro.

Pull was a record that never got a shot, so it’s OK that the first chunk of tunes are from that album.ย  It deserved a second chance.ย  These are standout songs:ย  “Blind Revolution Mad” smokes white hot, and with depth.ย  “Down Incognito” has a bright, memorable chorus contrasted with groovy verses.ย  90s-style riffing worked perfectly on the track “Junkyard Dog”, a seven-minute thrill ride through different textures.ย  Winger were not playing it simple.ย  Even their ballads from that era have more heft.ย  “Spell I’m Under” has edge under those layered melodies.ย  Few songs are as starkly lovely as “Who’s the One”.

The Very Best of Winger takes a dive after the Pull material.ย  The CD is in reverse chronological order, which almost never works.ย  Yes, it highlights the most current sounding music, but at the cost of consistency.ย  Winger II: In the Heart of the Young was, let’s be honest, not good.ย  The ballads were sappier and the rockers too cheesy.ย  Only “Rainbow in the Rose” really fits on this set.ย  Past the dreck, the four singles from album #1 are included.ย  This means the CD at least ends on an up, though the ballad “Headed for a Heartbreak” is a bit anti-climatic.

Go for The Very Best of Winger if:

a) you want to check this band out, or

b) you want the rarities.

Your needs might be met by just buying Pull.
