#450: Beat Up in a Mascot Suit [VIDEO]

RECORD STORE TALES #450: Beat Up in a Mascot Suit

When I first saw this thing sitting in the Beat Goes On back room, I thought it was one of the most hilarious sights I’d ever be likely to find. For shits and giggles, I offered to wear it one Saturday afternoon, and stand on the sidewalk waving to cars. I quickly changed my mind when one of our staff attempted to dissuade me, by telling her friends to kick my CD-suited-ass. Upper management may have lost respect for me when I backed out, but I didn’t see any of them waving at cars either.

You have no defence inside the suit. Your hands and arms are limited to movement at the wrists, and you lose all peripheral vision. A gang of highschool aged Korn fans would have made short work of me!

One slow evening, I decided to take a break and use the time constructively. I wanted to try on that suit! I went into the back room while leaving Dandy in charge of the register. In the back, working a night shift on our web sales, was Wiseman, who offered to take some pictures and video of the suit.

This is what happened. The events were not staged. I never wore it again!

Enjoy.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens – new TV spot featuring Finn

This is one of the coolest spots yet. A few weeks ago, Hasbro released a “riot control stormtrooper” figure featuring some kind of electro-baton. In this clip we get to see Finn facing off again this guy with the blue Anakin saber. Looks just awesome.

December 18 is less than a month away…

Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Japanese trailer

“I know all about waiting…for my family.”

First of all, JJ lied!  He said there were no more trailers coming.  Well, here is a new one from Japan, with tons of new footage and plenty of Rey dialogue we haven’t heard before.  Who are her parents?  Find out December 18.

VIDEOS: Force Friday unboxings! (Star Wars Black Series 6″ figures)

Force Friday came and went without a hitch (for me). It was only the unboxing videos that caused me problems!

I understand quite a few people came away disappointed.  I did not.  I was hunting for only one type of Star Wars toy: The Black Series 6″ figures, which readers here know I collect almost religiously. I’ve posted lots of pictures of the opened portion of my collection. They can be found here, here, here, and here. They are just awesome figures that we would have died to have back in the 70’s.

The first wave of 6″ figures from The Force Awakens consists of:

01 – Finn
02 – Rey & BB-8
03 – Kylo Ren
04 – First Order Stormtrooper
05 – Chewbacca

Going in with a game plan, I decided to skip Chewie.  (Iron Maiden’s newest was also released on Force Friday, cutting into the budget.)  A re-sculpt of an older figure I already have wasn’t a priority, and I don’t like his new face. I also aimed to get two each of Rey, Kylo and Stormie, because I wanted one of each of those to open and play with!  (The next wave looks to include Captain Phasma and General Hux.  We’re also expecting a Tattooine Luke, and a Kanan from Star Wars Rebels.  Count me in for those.  But where is Threepio?)

Unboxing #1: Kylo Ren

Unboxing #2: First Order Stormtrooper (technical difficulties!)

Unboxing #3: Rey & BB-8

RECORD STORE TALES MkII: Getting More Tale
#428: Seven Years Ago Today…

Happy Anniversary to the lovely Mrs. LeBrain, who is still putting up with my shit today!

For seven whole years now, she’s been trying to convince me that I’m a snorer. I kept telling her, “Video, or it didn’t happen.” Even though she told me I can shake the windows, I refused to believe.

Until today.

Sausagefester Sebastien Xavier Meunier has provided the video proof above, recorded this year at Sausagefest 2015. That is my tent. And that, apparently, is my snore.

I love you Mrs. LeBrain. I won’t ever doubt you again.  Today, you win!

VIDEO: “Star Wars – Capture on Kashyyyk” featuring music by STEALTH

What is summer without a few trips to the cottage? This past weekend was beautiful and loaned itself to some photography and loads of music.

Below, you will find a video using a new track by Stealth, the duo made up of bass clarinetist Kathryn Ladano, and percussionist Richard Burrows.  The music is “point i” from their debut album, called …listen.  Thanks to Youtube, you no longer have to just “listen”!

“Point i” suited the jungle planet in the photos.  I was just playing around with my Star Wars Black Series 6″ figures and I wanted to show off my new IG-88 and Chewbacca.  I got carried away and what you see below is the result.  It was a lot of fun, which I hope you can see in the adventure!

Thanks to Kathryn and Stealth for permission to use the music.  Pick up ...listen by contacting the artists at kathrynladano.com, coming soon to iTunes and Amazon.
